Editorial: Tarot Ramblings
Editorial: Tarot Ramblings I just received a belated birthday gift from a friend in FL. It is a wonderful "page a day" calendar, with a full color mandala in the center, and a short meditation in the upper right hand corner. Saturday and Sunday are combined into one page - a page that is left in black and white outline so that the mandala can be hand colored (a meditation in its own right). The calendar is published by Workman Publishing (ISBN #0-7611-3377-1), and is entitled "Page A Day Calendar". You may find more information regarding this lovely calendar at: www.pageaday.com or www.workman.com. I have been following the work of a young lady who writes for the ATA (American Tarot Association) monthly on-line newsletter Tarot Reflections. Her name is Tracy Hite - she is doing a marvelous job, and deserves recognition for it. As well as being a wife and mother of young children, Tracy is Treasurer and Network Manager for the ATA. Her column, entitled "Down The Rabbit Hole", is a wonderful combination of whimsy and astute Tarot sense, as she answers questions for those who are "curiouser and curiouser" about the cards. Tarot Reflections live links to both the current issue and archived issues can be found on the ATA site (www.ata-tarot.com). Go to the left hand side of the page, under Tarot Reflections. Tracy is a wonderful new voice for the Tarot world that fully deserves to be heard! :)
Article: Imbolc Imbolc, one of the four greater Wiccan Sabbat's, is dedicated to the Celtic Goddess Brigid. Celebrated on February 2nd, Imbolc honors that time between Winter and Spring, when the new shoots coming up and the days are getting longer. It is also a time of personal new beginnings in the form of hopes and dreams for the coming months. The days start to lengthen, and our thoughts go to the new growth around us, and the ending of the slumber that was winter. In reality, we still see colder weather, and (depending on where we live), we know that we still have a month or two before we really see the results of the new growth around us - leaves on the trees, colorful flowers in our yards. We can choose to honor this holiday with ritual, if we choose (whether we are Wiccan or not). We are honoring the changing of the seasons, the wonderful wheel of life turning yet another turn. The Goddess Brigid is literally associated with milk, and the flowing of milk, so you may want to make a glass of milk part of your ritual. A simple time of meditation would do, with a green candle and a white candle burning (green for the new growth of spring, white for protection). I include a white candle in all of my sacred work because of its protective properties. Think about what moving from Winter to Spring means to you, what your hopes and dreams are for the coming Summer. With the candles still burning, you may wish to do a personal reading that focuses on your hopes and dreams, on the new beginnings that you wish to bring in. I have included a spread for Imbolc below - or you may want to come up with one of your own. Make this fun, and not work, as this is a time of great celebration! One way to end the ritual is to say a personal "Thank You" to Brigid for the abundance she has placed in your life. You may also wish to add a personal affirmation, something along the lines of: I align myself with Mother Earth, and place my full intent behind the manifestation of my hopes and dreams. As I see them in my mind, so shall they be in my life. I have the skills and ability to live my dreams. Now might also be a good time to drink your glass of milk. :)
