Fun happenings this past month. I received this link in the Enchanted World newsletter. It is a live link to AmyZerner and Monty Farber doing a live reading for Alanis Morosette!
I came across this site while doing some research - Tarot books and decks (and lots of other goodies!), some at greatly discounted prices. www.hungrymindbooks.com This is an update to a site that I have mentioned here before: http://trionfi.com/0/j/. The material here is relevant to Tarot timelines, and is a great Tarot resource. A second update page for this stellar site is http://trionfi.com/0/b/, which discusses the Michelino Tarot deck. Here's another new page, in the Tarot Museum section: http://trionfi.com/0/s/g. Joanna Powell Colbert has a new card up for her soon to be released Gaian Tarot. The Hanged Man can be seen here: Hanged Man. From the Tarot Tips newsletter (Ruth Ann & Wald Amberstone, The Tarot School), comes this really neat link: www.RevoltOfTheMagicians.com. It is a movie in the making about the life of Aleister Crowley, and featuring Lon Milo DuQuette as a primary source and writer. No way this could be anything but very, very interesting! I will be giving a teleclass on Decision Making & The Tarot on August 16th, 2004. I hope to see many of you there! Details are below. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at Crystalgate@aol.com.

On-line Divination sites: In cruising the internet I have found several on-line divination sites - both Tarot and non-Tarot, that are both fun and worth spending time with. Some of these sites are for specific Tarot decks - and I have to say that the art is stupendous! It makes me feel glad to be alive, and more than happy to be part of the Tarot world. I hope that you enjoy these as much as I am: *www.transformation.co.ca/oraclehome.htm * www.pixelations.com/ogham/index.2.html The Voice Of The Woods - A Celtic Ogham Divination System * www.thefool.com The Victoria Regina Tarot * www.theenchantedworld.com Interactive site for Amy Zerner & Monty Farber (Enchanted Tarot) * www.voyagertarot.com The Voyager Tarot (James Wanless) * www.glowinthedarkpictures.com/iitarot/reading.html Robin Ator's International Icon Tarot
Tarot Article: Tarot Pathworking There are many ways that one can define pathworking within the Tarot. One way is to work with the Qabalistic Tree of Life, and the 22 paths that correspond to the 22 Major Arcana cards. The Tree is literally constructed as these paths manifest and connect with each other, opening specific gateways to wisdom along the way. In our search for wisdom and inner peace, we access each of these keys in turn. For some, walking one path will be the work of an entire lifetime. As we acknowledge or shadows, learn to embrace them and release our ego, we find the vision of what our lives are truly meant to be. Pathworking can be done with the use of a single card, or it can be done through the use of Tarot spreads. Each Key, or Tarot Major Arcana card, carries a specific archetypal quality. It is through studying these archetypes that we connect with the spirit within ourselves, and the spirit within others. In the end - we are all One, the same Spirit, the same Divine presence. In my experience, we do not necessarily follow the sequence of the Tarot cards to walk the individual paths. We walk the paths that are necessary for the lessons contained within an individual lifetime. And how do we determine those paths? Begin by separating the 22 Major Arcana cards from the rest of the Tarot deck. Shuffle the cards while holding the intent in your mind that you want to connect with the path that you need at that moment. Stop shuffling when you feel that you are ready. You can fan the cards out and draw a card, or take the top card - how the card is chosen is not important, but how you feel about it is. Set your chosen card in front of you, where it can easily be seen. Allow your mind to go blank, and enter the card. Pay attention to the sounds and the smells, the people, animals and vegetation present. Introduce yourself to them, and ask if they will talk with you. If they will, ask them if there is anything that they would like to ask you. If there is, answer their questions. If not, ask them what you need to know about their path. When they are finished talking, thank them for their time, and leave the card in the same manner that you entered it. Write down any impressions that you have of your journey, and any wisdom that the card and its figures had for you. Take a few minutes to allow this information to settle in your being. Now is the time to form an affirmation based on the information that you were given. Repeat this affirmation aloud at least once a day for seven days. At the end of the week, go back and review your initial journey into the card. You will know if there is more work to be done with this card, or if you need to move on. The lesson of each card, its archetypal quality, is what you are working with. For instance, with the Magician it is using our imagination and creativity to create our own destinies. For the Empress, it is to nurture abundance, growth and prosperity in life, and to learn to give and receive unconditional love. The Hermit asks us to know that the answers that we seek are within, and to understand that this is where our peace lies. And so it goes for each card. May each of you find the path that is yours for the moment (or for the lifetime), and live the peace and joy to be found therein.
Interview: Megan Skinner I recently came across some wonderful work (Essence Of The Tarot - Modern Reflections On Ancient Wisdom) that was done in connection with Tarot and the Hero's Journey. The author is Megan Skinner, a professional clairvoyant, Tarot reader and astrologer with a counseling practice in Seattle. Megan has agreed to sit down and talk with us about how she came to the Tarot, the place that is holds in her practice, and how we can relate the sacred Journey of the Hero into everyday life.
BC: Megan, thank you for taking the time to be with us. Perhaps we should start with how the Tarot come into your life. MS: Thank you Bonnie for this opportunity to talk about my work. I received my first deck of Tarot cards when I was 14 years old (a Christmas gift from my mother,) and will never forget the first moment I laid eyes on the cards--I was instantly mesmerized. I was a sensitive, dramatic child interested in the occult and all things supernatural and there, within that deck of Tarot cards, was the opportunity to fully engage my imagination in the most sublime magic! When learning how to do readings, it was the characters that first intrigued me --Kings and Queens, Devils and Angels, High Priests and Priestesses--and as I laid out the cards, stories unfolded. Stories that seemed to reflect my inner-most secrets and desires. I was hooked. I set up shop immediately, doing readings for all my teenage girlfriends, and even though they generally focused on who liked whom, prom dates and whether one would get the lead in the school play, it was all good and an interesting first foray into the Tarot. Plus, I found I had a knack for reading the cards. BC: I know that you worked in the world of business before you started your Counseling practice. What catalyzed this very major life change? MS: I was raised in an achievement-orientated family with an emphasis on academics, so there was not a lot of question about going to college and pursing a professional career. After graduating from the state university with a degree in communications I got a job at a Seattle Advertising firm. I climbed the corporate ladder quickly (mostly from being at the right place at the right time) and, quite frankly, was completely and utterly miserable. One day I surprised everyone by just up and quitting. In hindsight, I now know that my sensitivities were not a good match for the corporate environment. But I value that experience because it gave me an understanding and foundation in the business world which has been useful. After I quit my corporate job I went to have my first psychic reading. The psychic, a very in-tune individual, asked me if I read Tarot cards. I answered that I used to, but wasn't into "that stuff" any more. He smiled knowingly and told me that the cards would come back into my life, and that I would be doing readings again. I thought he was crazy, but the next day, my roommate, not knowing anything about the reading, was doing some housecleaning and came upon an old deck of Tarot cards. He presented them to me, saying: "I thought you might be interested in these." I was, of course, astounded and took as a sign. It was then that my career as a Tarot card reader began. At first, I started doing readings for my friends, and then gradually, through word of mouth, it turned into a full-time career. Did I set out to be a professional Tarot card reader? No. It was as if the cards chose me, and I have to say, it has been wonderfully fulfilling "job", both on a personal and spiritual level. BC: How do you see numerology, astrology and the Qabalah fitting into the world of Tarot?
Who am I? Each month I am going to have one card from the Tarot talk to my readers. The card will in some way tell you something about itself and what it stands for. I would like to have you the reader send in which card you think is speaking, and a short explanation of why you choose that card. In some instances, you may feel that more than one card is being represented. In the following months newsletter, I will present all of my readers opinions, as well as a new card for that month. In this manner, in real time, we can see the power (energy) behind the cards, and perhaps get a feel for how to use them in our lives. Who am I? 06/01/04 You walk with me when the world disappoints you, when you are not happy with yourself, and when you feel like turning away all that the world has to offer. Who am I?08/01/04 Walk with me - life is a never ending series of movements and change. Nothing ever remains the same - nor should you! Note: In next months newsletter I will publish who my readers feel this description refers to. If you wish to remain anonymous please let me know, and I will honor that request. Give me the reasoning behind your thought - I think we will see that there can be more than one answer here. Perhaps this small exercise can be used to open us all to new ways of communicating with the Tarot. :)
