Soul Mates - Myth Or Reality?

Did you know there was an interactive oracle on line specifically aimed at soul mate questions? Well, there is! Alana, at AskAlana.com (www.askalana.com/smc-oracle-1.html) has put up an interactive site for guidance with soul mate related questions. She asks the reader to think for a moment about what they are looking for in an ideal relationship. She then asks the reader to form a clear intention in their mind as to what they are wishing for. The reader then clicks on a word from a grid consisting of many love/relationship related terms (i.e. happiness, bliss, joy etc), and presents her thoughts as guidance.

I chose to click on "vision", and this is the guidance that I received:

"People always desire a connection with love. As we join together and create a goal to bring peace and love into this world, we will find that we can all attain greater forms of abundance, greater expressions of joy, and a planet that is about love. What good news or message can you pass on today to your friends? By setting something positive into motion today, you may be surprised by what comes back!"

Very well thought out, was my first impression. And a very strong connection to the world, as opposed to thinking solely in terms of the individual and their wants and needs. My problem with the grid was a quasi technical one - in order to separate the words, they are highlighted in different colors. How many readers are attracted to the color of the word, rather than to the word itself. Color carries vibration, and the words, when spoken even in our minds, carry their own vibration. So ... are people getting what they need here? At the least, I do admit that it is a step in the right direction.

What is this soul mate thing, and why is it so all important to so many people? That is not a guess - as a Tarot reader, I get this question a high percentage of the time, so it is important to many people. A soul mate relationship, in my view, is a highly spiritual relationship. With a soul mate, we share major spiritual life lessons. And more often than not, when we meet our soul mate we are immediately drawn to them ... and we feel as if we have known them forever!

There are some things that we need to understand. We may have several soul mates in one lifetime - they are not all meant to stay there for our entire life span. They may be there to help us through a specific life lesson, or a specific time period. Or, we may not have a soul mate in any given lifetime, simply because they are not needed for that lifetime.

Another big caveat - a soul mate is not here to make us whole. We are already whole! A soul mate is not there to "fix things" ... they are not there to fill the holes in our lives. We need to be able to listen to ourselves, to know what is important for us as individuals, and to be willing to release from our lives whatever holds us back from living a balanced life based on what is important to us.

We need to remember that the soul mate relationship is a spiritual one - that we are here to help each other with life lessons. If we know ourselves well, we will put out the energy that draws the energy to us that we need at any specific time. Our soul mates are, for the most part, individuals that we have quite harmonious relationships with. The soul mates in our lives can be romantic partners, business partners, friends or even family members.

How can we use the Tarot to explore our personal soul mate relationships (as well as helping our clients with their soul mate issues)? One way of doing this is to take a look at ourselves in this lifetime, at the lessons that we need to learn, and at what we need from our karmic relations. Here the past becomes the present, which becomes the future. More of a figure eight than a circle - so that is how I set this reading up.

1. What is my personality card (purpose and lessons for this lifetime)?
2. What is my soul card (soul purpose for this lifetime)?
3. What lessons did I bring into this lifetime from past lifetimes?
4. What is my personal potential for this lifetime?
5. What do I bring to a soul mate relationship?
6. What do I need from a soul mate relationship?
7. What actions can I take to bring my soul mate relationship(s) to me?
8. What is the outcome of my soul mate relationship(s) from this lifetime? The cards are determined as follows:

1. Personality Card

Add the numbers from your date of birth in the following manner:

December 29, 1948 =

0012
0029
1948
1989

Add the resulting numbers: 1+9+8+9 = 27 If the resulting number is greater than 22, add the numbers together until you obtain a number less than 22. In our example, 2+7 = 9.

The personality card for December 29th, 1948 is number 9. The Major Arcana card represented by this number is the personality card. The 9th card in the Major Arcana is the Hermit.

2. Soul Card:

To determine your soul card, follow the method above. If the resultant number is a single digit, the Personality and Soul cards are the same. If the personality card is a double digit, add the two digits together. The Major Arcana card representing that number is the Soul Card.

In our example, the Personality and Soul cards are the same: The Hermit.

3-7: Separate the Major Arcana cards from the deck (including the Personality and Soul cards) and shuffle them. Place the top five cards in positions 3-7.

8. Take the remainder of the Major Arcana cards, and the rest of the deck that has been set aside, and shuffle them together. Draw one card for the outcome of your soul mate relationship(s) in this lifetime.

Note: There are other methods of determining Personality and Soul cards. If you have a method that you prefer, please use that and make this reading your own. :)
