Maybe not. Is it just me or has MTV become nothing but the same seven "artists" over and over? Music is music is music but does it have to be the same thing all day long?

Total Request Live [Teeny-bopper Request Live, etc.] is a prime example. What goes on in the top ten daily? If you said "nothing" you're our winner! Every time it's Backstreet Boys [aka Bull Shit Boys, Butt Sniff Boys], 'N SYNC [aka 'N STINK, 'N SUCK, 'N SHIT, 'N SUX], Britney Spears [aka Shitney Queers, Bitchney], and Hanson. And sometimes Jessica, Mandy, and Christina bless us with their presence! Oh my gawd!!!!!!! And before you think I have it out for pop music (I don't) I must go and provoke those "dark rock" fans.

Just as Backstreet is a fixture to MTV so are Korn, the group with the backwards-capital "r." Go figure! With a blend of wailing and loud background noise they manage to hold on to the middle of the countdown.

Oh shut the hell up. Your life can't be that bad.

What about Fred Drust, the guy that launched a million clones? Oh sure, he and the rest of the misspelled crew pop in from time to time with their latest accomplishment. At least they have interesting videos. How do these groups stick around for four albums? In the "dark rock" category I'll give credit for song writing and instrument skills--the barbies have yet to do that on every song--but in the end they're boy bands. Limp Bizkit is just as image conscious as 'N SYNC, always trying to be on the cutting edge of cool.

Think about it: Kid Rock is more about his "I'm a bad ass and I know it!" mantra than the actual music. What are his videos? A parade of half-naked women as he screams his own praises. Oh yeah. That took thought.

Probably as much as the over-used "Mandy, Mandy, the sound of your voice is sweet like candy." Bet it took him all day to come up with that.

I'd leave all these people alone, expect it's so hard not to have to deal with them. Why must they be jammed down my throat all day? "Image is everything." Truly, it is. Why isn't Fiona Apple on the countdown? Because she sings raw emotion with true talent? Because she doesn't show her midriff? I don't know. Ask the teens who vote, or rather spam [i.e. vote for the same act forty or fifty times] TRL to death.

It's almost like a cult following. If ____ boyband/barbie isn't number one on TRL then it's then end of the world. There are so many better things to do with your time than vote repeatedly for something that isn't at all influencial to real life. Do you think Britney/Eminem/Backstreet/'N SYNC/Christina/Mandy/Jessica/Hanson really care if they're number one every day? Chances are, no. They'd probably rather win a Grammy.

I'm sick of the racy lyrics. "It’s my innocence that makes you yearn." Uh, Mandy hon, are you ASKING for it? "Come on over baby," is probably the cleanest lyric in Christina's new song. Say it with me people: date rape.

If you can show me one true, honest, decent, caring role model in the TRL/MTV bracket I will relent. Why do girls have low self esteem? Check out MTV's auctions. It sounds like an advertisement for bulimia (Britney and Christina's clothes). Size ZERO?!?!?!?! Do you know a person who wears size ZERO? I sure don't.
