I promised myself that For the Love of Fire had to be spoiler free, so here I am, restraining myself from giving too much away... but then again, what is the point of you reading this if you won't get any spoilers here? This is wordy, but my summary skills ain't great, so...

Kurei, like Recca, comes from the legendary clan of the Hokage Ninjas. Kurei was actually what the clan called the "Son of Fire", the one who would next lead the clan. But Ohka, that promiscuous fellow, fathered Recca 4 years later. This proved to be a problem, as Ohka (who is the leader of Hokage) could only have ONE "Son of Fire". The other leaders of the clan thought that Kurei was bad luck, and wanted to kill him, together with his mother. But Kagerou (read: Recca's mother) pleaded for them and the leaders relented and banished them to the outskirts of the village in which they lived. But because he was brainwashed by his mother, Kurei hated Recca immensely and one day sneaked back into the village to murder Recca. He was discovered, however, and was thrown into the dungeon together with his mother. While they were in this place, the village was attacked by government soldiers and they were trapped. This was when Kurei discovered his flame and destroyed the dungeon. Kurei wanted to escape with his mother, but she was injured and couldn't continue her run. Kurei then had to leave her where she was and go on running. By chance, Kurei saw Kagerou with Recca and leapt forward with a knife in his hand to kill him, but fell into the time warp which Kagerou had opened. Kurei landed with Mori Kouran, who thus became his foster father. Some kind of father he was. Mori Kouran treated him like dirt and the reason why Kurei actually listened to him and didn't just blast him to the deepest regions of Hell was because Kouran had installed a bomb-like object into Kurei's foster mother (read, his own WIFE) whom Kurei loved dearly. In the process of his growing up and living there, Kurei fell in love with Kurenai. (I'm a little hazy on what exactly Kurenai's relationship is to Mori, but I *think * she's his foster daughter.) Naturally, Mori Kouran wasn't pleased. After all, he thought Kurei was here to be his slave, not fall in love with his daughter. And so, he called Kurei to his office one day and asked the rest of his men to start beating Kurei up, saying that he had to be emotionless. Kurei, in order to save himself, told him that he didn't love Kurenai. And so, that b*st*rd Mori Kouran told Kurei that in order to prove that he didn't love her, had to kill her. Of course Kurei couldn't do it, and so Mori Kouran brought out his little device to set off a bomb in Kurenai's body. He pressed it, by the way. Kurei was heart-broken and using his magical flaming flamingo flame (okay okay, so it's the Hoh Oh, the legendary Phoenix), he turned Kurenai into his flame. He then asked Kurenai to "take his face" as poor compensation for taking her life. So, the Flame touched his face, and gave Kurei the scar on his right cheek. And what happens next? AHA! This is where you guys have to stop. Go, find out his sob story. Get the manga, the anime, whatever. Or if you REALLY can't wait... go to another site. You ain't gonna get much here.
