PUNCTURE - dookie review

this berkeley outfit have been around the music scene since they were kids (i first heard them at the gilman street co-op, when the band were with indie label lookout). they write anguished/cynical songs with great tunes in the vein of ramones-tempo rock as updated by screeching weasel and the queers. their major-label debut is packed with short, solid pop melodies that hook and cook with to-the-point power chords. a tight rhythm section magnificently times songs that tell the kind of stories dear to wary teens. standout titles are "longview," "basket case," "burnout," "she," and "sassafras Roots."
