Hot Air Ballooning in Albuquerque
New Mexico

It was 5:30 in the morning when we drug ourselves out of bed in order to meet with Captian Dave in a grocery store parking lot at Sunrise. After meeting Dave and his friendly crew, he escorted us to the launch field, where there were already several balloons being inflated. It was still a little dark when the first balloon started to inflate as I jumped out of the car to snap this picture.{Click here for more photos from this flight}. By this time we were totally awake and ready for our adventure.

Captain Dave and his crew began to unload their balloon out of their trailer. To our amazement the crew had the balloon assembled in no time as Captain Dave explained to us what to expect on our flight. As we boarded the balloon we were a little nervous, but it wasn't scary at all as the balloon slowly pulled away from the ground.

Once we were in the air it was amazingly quiet, except for the occasional blast from the burner, barking dog, or someone shouting greetings from below.

We were surprised at how warm and comfortable it was up there, as we mentioned to Captain Dave that we did not feel any wind on our face. Dave then explained to us that we were moving with the wind and if we were to light a candle, the flame would not flicker.

On our flight we saw some beautiful scenery, over the Sandia Mountain foothills including an eagle and elk. But before we knew it, an hour had passed and our flight was over. But to our surprise Captain Dave and his crew were not finished with us. They then drove us back to our vehicle. Where we toasted our flight with a champagne ceremony and breakfast.

Now that we are back home, we sure are glad we flew with Captain Dave because I could not imagine flying over such beautiful scenery.
