Turner Family History

Our earliest known TURNER was William Turner. We estimate his birth as sometime in the 1770's, but this is a very rough guess. Our latest information indicates that he was born in England, and was "invited to leave" because of his preaching. He came to America, and worked for the next seven years to pay for his passage. Then he traveled to Louisville, KY, where he met and married a woman from NC. He returned to Harper's Ferry, WV, where he built his cabin and planted his crops. He then went back to Louisville and brought his new wife home to Harper's Ferry. We believe this marriage took place about 1793-1794. Thomas was born in late 1794, and there was possibly another son named James, probably born 1795-1796. William then left for KY in 1796, and was never heard from again - family legend has it that he was killed by Indians.

Thomas was raised by a Quaker family by the name of Beeson, in the Harper's Ferry area. He married Hannah CARSON (born 1797, daughter of James Beatty CARSON) in Harper's Ferry, VA in 1818. They moved to Ohio briefly, then to Butler County, KY and had the following children:

1. James William (b 1819?) mar. Elisabeth SMITH
2. David Carson mar. Mary PORTER
3. Benjamin mar. Rebecca ????
4. Hamilton Beatty ( b 1821) mar. Mary Caroline PARKS

8. Robert Henry (b 1834) mar. Mary Emma ????
9. Mary Ann (b 1837) mar. George W. CALDWELL
10. Elizabeth (b 1842)

Hannah died in 1844, and Thomas married Rachel Porter COOK (b 1812). Their children were:
