Limiting God

May 10, 2010

We must fight against limiting God by perceiving Him with our flesh and not by the Spirit. True and honest pray, coming to Him in the Spirit and having fellowship with Him reveals to us how beyond us, He is. “Even the Heavens cannot contain thee.” God choose to limit himself for our sake. He does not stop being God or become less holy. Nothing about God changes. His choice to hear our prayer and reveal Himself to us is His choice to love us. He cannot show His total self to us because the word total itself is a human limited measure. He choose to reveal himself to us in a limited way so that we don’t die and so we can have this relationship with Him. Jesus left the glory he had with the Father before the world was made, and took the form of a servant. He did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped. Our Lord is God come in the form of a servant. This is God coming to our limited level, in love. God designed the Tent of Meeting and later showed Solomon how to build the Temple that His Name would be there forever. God makes the arrangements for us to meet Him, to be with Him. And in the New Testament, God sends Jesus to redeem us with His blood and now we are the temple and God meets with us by dwelling in us through the Spirit of God. When we come to Him in prayer, we must allow the Spirit of God to intercede for us because our prayer is inadequate to communicate to the God who cannot be contained by the heavens. By the Spirit we can worship in spirit and in truth. By the flesh we limit our time with God to asking for things. Apart from Him we can do nothing and this includes our ability to see Him and experience a glimpse of His greatness and His glory in prayer. Only in the Spirit are we able to go beyond our own minds and hearts. Pray to God today and wait upon Him, allow Him to reveal Himself to you, beyond your understanding.
