05 September 2000 ~ The moral of the story...

This font color is called "Sienna." I imagine it's going to be pretty ugly when I look at it, but it's a pretty word, so fuck it.

"'Cause in Sienna, we were poetry..." --Linda Eder's "Vienna" on crack...

Things I have learned in the past three months:

*Sarah McLachlan is, seriously, a goddess... I mean, I kinda knew that before, but it's been much more apparent lately.

*A home and a family are not necessarily the place that you live and the people you live with. Home for me is not the place I live in, and some of my closest family members aren't related to me at all, yet I am MUCH closer to them than a string of aunts and uncles, etc., some of whom I never see, and others of whom take great pleasure in telling my I'm not an asset to their family. Family is something you're needed and loved by. And espresso is much thicker than blood... At least the way I take it.

*Not everybody is stupid. Many people are, but not all of them.

*Talking to lawyers isn't scary at all; certainly nothing like talking to cops. However, apparently all lawyers serve shitty coffee in their offices.

*Even some cops are nice, even if they are scary pretty much by definition.

*Kissing is not always the best thing in the world. Kissing on a street corner is damned hard to beat though.

*Sleep deprivation = bad.

*Friendship shouldn't depend on how much you're willing to do for somebody. Friendship also doesn't have big dark scary secrets.

*It feels REALLY damned good to stand somebody up and enjoy a mental-health day instead.

*Long Island kids aren't really as awful as I used to think they were... Well, some of them are... But not all of them. I'm still not sure about New Jersey kids, but Long Island kids aren't actually inherently evil.

*College is HIGHLY over-rated, and I've come to the firm conclusion that education should be based more on principles of survival than who can bullshit the best. Also, I've decided that every education should include at least one 20+ hour Greyhound trip before diplomas can be given out.

*Key-lime pie should ALWAYS be served with raspberry sauce, and tiramisu should always be served with whipped cream and espresso beans on top.

*Adulthood is a lot lonelier than childhood. But kids are a lot more dangerous.

*The Broome County Health Department cannot be trusted with ANYTHING, particularly not my vagina.

*It is possible to love someone passionately, to hold someone in your arms and be unable to speak, and to leave that behind and go on loving intensely and silently without expecting anything or waiting for some ideal future... Love waits and all, but my life doesn't.

*Driving isn't scary at all. Parallel parking is, and the Johnson City traffic circle is, and driving behind anybody with a New Mexico license plate is, but other than that, driving isn't scary.

*If you write down your dreams, they fuck you up less.

*Techno is great. Drag queens are not great. This is almost universal, from my semi-limited understanding.

*Almost everything is forgiveable. But not quite everything.

*Wal-mart is fucking hilarious if you go with the right person.

*Teeter-totters are not just for little kids. Neither are swing-sets.

*People who have something to prove to me, or to the rest of the world, are not people I want to hang out with. Or sleep with. :?)

*Never underestimate the value of a VCR... Or a CD-player that works.

Love,
~Helena*
