STUDENT-ORIGINATED STUDIES: CONSCIOUSNESS STUDIES

Faculty: David Rutledge

Prerequisites: Junior or senior standing; faculty signature required

This is a student-centered program, institutionally designed to incorporate community interaction in the education process. Its purpose is to provide an academic framework for students to clarify and validate their educational experience in a genuine community of reciprocal respect. It is a place in the curriculum where students may make their own program of study in relation to others of like interests. It differs from Individual Learning Contracts in that it is committed to forming a group of advanced students and organically developing an academic program that is challenging and cooperative. Attendance at class is by invitation and travel as an integral part of academic studies is possible with faculty consent. As a community, constructing a Web page and communicating by emails will be options. Areas of study may include, but are not limited to: cognition and perception, ethnic studies, gender studies, history of consciousness, human development, religious studies, spiritual practices, transpersonal psychology, depth psychology, and mythological studies.

Credit awarded will reflect the type of work done by each student and may vary depending on individual course of study and research.

TOTAL: 16 credits

Program is preparatory for careers and future studies in education, cultural studies, gender studies, psychology, social service, mythological studies, and indigenous studies.
