MAY 16, 2000 — Eliseo G.
Vigil, 87, of Española died Friday in Las Vegas, Nev. He was
born July 5, 1912, in Española. He received his education from
El Rito Normal School. He was a member of the N.M. National
Guard and was activated into active duty service during World
War II. He was captured in 1942 and was a prisoner of war until
1945. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and three Bronze Stars.
He retired from the Zia Corporation in Los Alamos following 25
years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents Jose
Pablo Vigil and Emelia Garcia Vigil; brothers Alfredo, Elias,
Jose and Silviano Vigil; sisters Aurora Fernandez, Emma
Castillano, and Erlinda Fern. He is survived by his wife, Vera
Vigil of Las Vegas, Nev.; sons J. Eliseo Vigil, and Toby F.
Vigil, both of Española; daughters Elena Garcia and husband
Ramon of Española, Esperanza Oaks and husband Richard of Santa
Fe, and Diana Vigil Gitterman and husband Alan of Los Angeles;
sister, Adelina Candelaria of Torrance, Calif.; sister-in-law,
Bernie Vigil; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one
great-great-grandchild; and numerous other relatives and
friends. Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. today at La
Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Burial will follow at 3 p.m.
