MANILA AMERICAN CEMETERY

Charles Mitchell and Tech 5 James C. Warren (right) were first cousins and best friends. They grew up together in Baylor County, Texas.

In February 1942, James entered service in the US Army and served with the 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He was one of the Philippine “Liberators”.

Sadly, liberation came too late for Charles Euphra Mitchell, who was beaten to death in Cabanatuan prisoner of war camp in July 1942.

James Warren would name his son after Charles Mitchell.
