What and Why?If you want to boost your home theatre experience, a video projector is a good buy. They can project wall-sized images and take up zero floor space. Depending on the kind bought, they can have quality better then a TV. They can hook up to video game systems so it's a lot like playing at a movie theatre. Computers too can hook up to them.Company? These days many companies manufacture video projectors. A lot even specialize in them. Projecta, InFocus, Optoma, and Espon all are recommended brands. BestBuy carries all kinds of brands, and you can also order one online straight from the manufacturer itself.SpecsWhen considering a projector, lumens is most important because they determine the brightness. How much lumens the projector you buy depends on where it'll be. If the projector is placed in a room that is always dark, not many are needed. The more lighted the room is, the more ANSI is required. A lamp with a long life is extremely important as well because if it burns out the projector fails. The quality of the image also depends on the resolution, measured by pixels. An SVGA resolution, reccommended for home theatre use, has 800x600 pixels.
How Much Is It?How much a projector costs depends on the specs. The higher the brightness and resolution, the more expensive it is. Large projectors can cost about as much as an average-sized TV. But the cost can add up as it is used and the lamp needs to be replaced. A cost of anything from $500 to $5,000 is possible. But in general, a more expensive projector is reccommended because it should last longer.Keep in MindA projector is not recommended for people who watch just a lot of regular TV because the lamp life will go down fast and the cost for a replacement may cost you. Also remember that they go best in dimly-lit rooms. Why I Have OneThe old, big-screen TV broke so a projector much larger and clearer was bought. It is used for watching movies and must-watch TV shows. A smaller TV sits under the projector screen for everything else. The smaller TV and the projector cost as much as a replacement for the big-screen TV so that's why we went with the bigger projector and the smaller TV. But it is annoying that the projector isn't bright enough to watch during the day. |
