Looper and Encarnacion to Oakland
The Marlins and A's completed a deal swapping Closers Braden Looper and Armando Benitez and outfielders Adam Piatt and Juan Encarnacion. The A's paid the difference so the Marlins won't take a cap hit.

Tornados deal second OF of day
The LA Tornados dealt their second star outfielder today, sending rookie Rocco Baldelli to Oakland with Third Basemen Jared Sandberg for Third Basemen Joe Randa and outfielder Jermaine Dye.

Yanks ship Johnson to LA for Crawford
The New York Yankees pulled off another blockbuster move. After acquiring Oakland Third Baseman Eric Chavez earlier in the day, the Yankees went out and acquired a bonafide leadoff hitter in Carl Crawford. Crawford is expected to play LF and leadoff, pushing Matsui to DH and Soriano to an RBI slot. The Tornados acquired First basemen Nick Johnson and OF Bubba Trammel in the deal.

Crede to New York in 4 player deal
The Mets and White Sox made a blockbuster deal today, as New York shipped struggling OF Jeromy Burnitz (later to dealt to LA for Ben Grieve) along with rookie Ty Wigginton for Third Basemen Joe Crede and outfielder Aaron Rowand.
