In his book entitled "Visions of Social Control," criminologist Stanley Cohen tells the following story. Three men are standing beside a swiftly running river. Suddenly, they see a man being swept down the river drowning. One of the men on the shore jumps into the river and saves the drowning man. As this man is recovering, another drowning man comes down the river. A second man dives into the water and tries but fails to save the drowning man. Person after person comes down the surging river and the two men dive in repeatedly trying to save them, sometimes succeeding and sometimes not. After a while the third man, who has been standing on the shore watching, starts to walk upriver. "Where are you going?" One of the other rescuers calls out. Help us." "I'm am going to help you," the man replies. "By going to find out who's throwing these people in the river in the first place."' [clip] 'When I worked for the Criminal Conspiracies Division of the Justice Department, I evaluated evaluations of other people's research. In a conversation with a high-level woman in charge of research for the Department, I commented that we needed more research in this or that area. "Research." She scoffed cynically. "We don't need more research, we just need to do something with it."' [clip] ( By: Christina Johns) This is the whole idea behind aiding the sex offender registries and the parole/probation of convicted child sex offenders. The use of sex offender registries is ineffective in the war on child victimization. With the lack of intensive supervision by parole and probation officers, these sex offenders slip into other parts of society, unnoticed to parents in a new community. This is not prevention, it has given the released sex offenders the chance to prey on more victims. No more research should be acquired at the expense of more children’s lives. As you already know, Samantha Runnion’s killer was also accused of previously assaulting other children. Somehow, this violent sex offender charmed the jury into believing he was innocent and he escaped prosecution at the cost of Samantha’s life. WHEN will this all stop? These are not remorseful people; they are cunning, manipulative predators who sexually assault children repeatedly without conscience. If they can charm the child off of a parent, convicted sex offenders can undoubtedly con a parole board into the belief they are reformed.
We believe that the research done, especially by the NCMEC and the Justice department, although lacking to the public after 1997, ALREADY validates that these deviants can not be trusted back in society and children should never be exposed to them again.
Our forefathers had the foresight to provide ways for all branches of the government to legislate, enact, and amend laws as necessary as our society evolved. With the proliferation of heinous crimes being committed against our children, it is clear that our government has let us down in the protection of our children. The government must act immediately to enact laws that will protect our children and prosecute offenders to the fullest extent of the law. Life imprisonment.
