The SMASHERS were formed in the late seventies by Victor Lovera (God rest his soul), Virginia and Fagan Arouh. The General joined the band to complete the line-up. The tradition is being carried on by singer/songwriter General Gypsy Carns. Gypsy has been a part of Nashville's Rock&Roll scene since the late sixties and has recorded with several different bands for nearly every major label in town. Tony Newman came on board for the recording of their first album (SMASHERS-Kat Family records-1981). Gypsy has been nominated twice for a Grammy for his songwriting on Koko Taylor's "Jump For Joy" album and the "20 Year Alligator Records" tribute album. Gypsy is responsible for writing or co-writing the majority of material on this record. After collaborating on the Koko Taylor song, Gypsy and producers Fred James and Mary Ann Brandon came up with the idea of re-forming The SMASHERS. They contacted Tony Newman and he was eager also. Tony, as most rock fans know, has worked with some of the biggest names in the business - Gene Vincent, Billy Preston, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Beatles, The Hollies, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and David Bowie (Diamond Dogs and David Live). When it came time to enlist a bass player - Steve Carmen was called on. Steve is new in Nashville but has worked with many impressive artists from London to L.A. including: Bonnie Tyler, Peter Frampton, and Gladys Knight,to mention a few. So - there you have The SMASHERS - Loud, Confident & Wrong!"Jacinda"
