Seven to Nine Months

The First Nine Months of Motherhood Survival Guide
The Seventh Month
During the seventh month, Babies should be able to:
- Feed self a cracker.
- Razz (make a wet razzing sound).
- Coo or babble when happy.
- Smile often when interacting with you.

If you baby is not doing it already, he or she may be rolling really soon. This is the time when you need to make sure that your house is child proof. Once a baby learns how to roll over and becomes very good at it, their skills tend to develop very rapidly. Before you know it they will be crawling. It is best to start now so that you are not running around going crazy when you baby takes that first step on their knees. And if you baby is like mine, they will roll to wherever they want to go, getting in to everything.

Feeding- You can now begin to add meats to her lunch and dinner menus. Many meats today are already mixed with either a fruit or vegetable. If this is so, you don’t have to give them another fruit or vegetable for example, if you feed your child a jar of broccoli with chicken you don’t have to give them another vegetable since there is one already mixed with the meat, just add a fruit.

The Eighth Month
During the eighth month, Babies should be able to:
- Bear some weight on legs when held upright.
- Feed self a cracker
- Rake with fingers an object and pick it up in fist (keep all dangerous objects out of baby’s reach).
- Turn in the direction of a voice.
- Look for dropped objects.

Babies at this age develop more vocabulary and understanding, so don’t be surprised when your baby utters their first word! It is the best feeling a mother or father can have when they walk into a room and their baby yells ‘mama’ or ‘dada’ for the first time, or in many cases ‘dog’.

Feeding-During this month you can begin to add some stage 3 foods. As a warning, many babies do not like to eat stage 3 foods because of the chunks mixed in with the soft food. Many babies go right to table food. You can give your child some table food as long as it willnot cause a choking hazard. Food should be broken up into pea size pieces. Babies are still unable to eat egg whites (yolk is okay), peanuts, and fish. Docotrs suggest waiting until they are a year old for these products.

The Ninth Month
During the ninth month, your baby should be able to:
- Work to get a toy that’s out of reach.
- Look for dropped object.

Your baby may also be able to pull up to a sitting position, crawl, get into a sitting position from stomach, object if you try to take away a toy (this is a fun one, especially in stores), stand holding onto someone or something. Your baby verbal repertoire is also expanding. Your will also begin to say words indiscriminately, if not already. If your house has not been baby proofed yet, get it done now. Once they begin crawling, it is all over. Make sure you keep all dangerous object out of babies reach and fence off where you do not want he baby to go, for example, steps.

Feeding-Now your baby can eat yogurt, cheese (suck as cheddar and swiss), pasta, beans and tofu. When you are eating, is is okay to give your baby a taste of what you are eating. Just make sure that the pieces are cut really small so that they do not choke. All babies should be wathced when theya re eating to make sure that they do not overfill their mouths, even if the pieces are cut small, too many in their motuh can still cause a choking hazard.
