Task

WebQuest for students of French and Social Studies.

You and your partner have been offered positions on an elite team to explore what it is like to live on Mars. You are not sure if you can endure the range of emotions that it will require. In order to think about whether you will accept, you are going to look back in time and learn more about some French explorers of North America. You will be tracing the steps of:
  • Samuel de Champlain
  • Jacques Marquette
  • Jacques Cartier

Source
It will be necessary to answer key questions like:
  • What were they hoping to find?
  • Where did they go?
  • When did they explore?
  • How did they travel?
Once you and the other teams have answered these questions, you will draw conclusions about what you think their range of emotions were and predict what you and your colleagues' emotions might be while exploring Mars.
Together as a class, you will prepare a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting the explorers' emotions with your predictions of your own emotions.
