The students walked in a straight line down to the Great Hall. Harry, Kayt, Hermione, and Ron walked down at the end of the line. McGongagal was following Dumbledore around like an intent little pet.
They all sat next to each other on the floor and waited for a sleeping bag.
Harry looked at the expression on Kayt's face. It was a stunned and guilty expression. She looked like it was her fault for what had happened. There was an awkward silence between them all.
"So...." said Ron tryin to break the scary silence.
"Buttons!" said Hermione trying to also help.
Harry smiled and then looked at Kayt who had smiled and looked up.
"Hey, I'm sorry about tonight you guys." said Kayt, obviously snapping out of her trans.
"Hey, it's not your fault what happened." said Hermione, making the straight line now a circle.
Four sleeping bags were tossed over to them and they started setting up. They talked and the Great Hall was roaring with gossip and joking.
Professor Dumbledore walked over and gave Kayt a little white box. She opened it and saw a dark green stone with a mermaid above it on a silver chain.
Kayt looked up and said, "Excuse me, Professor, y r u giving me this?"
"I will explain another time. But right now it's safest with u." said Dumbledore as he started to walk away.
"Hey, I'll be right back." said Harry gettin up and walking towards Dumbledore.
"Hello, Kayt. I'm sure you remember me." said Malfoy sitting next to her sleeping bag.
"Of course. Hello." said Kayt, turning to look at Ron and Hermione.
"I heard about what happened. Are you ok?" asked Malfoy, as sly as a fox.
"Yes, I'm fine." Kayt said, hoping that he would go away soon.
Dumbledore drew attention to himself and told everyone to please go to sleep.
"Well, goodnight, Kayt." said Malfoy as he took her hand and kisssed it.
As he started to walk away, Harry was coming back but didn't notice Malfoy at all.
"Please don't say anything to him." hissed Kayt.
Ron and Hermione nodded as Harry plopped down next to Kayt.
"Where'd u go?" Kayt asked Harry, smiling at him.
"I had to go ask McGonagal something." Harry replied with a returning smile.
"Well we should go to sleep we have classes tomorrow." said Hermione.
"Yea and we have Snape first thing in the morning tomorrow." said Ron rolling his eyes and groaing.
"Snape? What's so bad about Snape?" asked Kayt.
"It's time to sleep. No more talking." said an irky voice behind them.
They turned around to see Snape standing behind them.
"Yes, Professor." said Hermione.
He walked away as they all layed down.
"How come every time we talk about him, he's always listening?!" asked Ron sounding annoyed.
They all laughed and Kayt and Harry fell asleep holding hands. Ron and Hermione did also.
Hermione woke up in the morning and saw that Kayt wasn't there. She sat up quickly and looked around the Great Hall. She was going to wake up Harry but decided not to. She got up and started wallking around.
The only sound in the Great Hall was the snoring of the students. She didn't see Kayt anywhere so she walked into the hallway.
"Kayt!" Hermione hissed quietly.
She looked up and down the hallways but didn't see Kayt. It was too dark but she new it was morning. She start to walk towards the stairs to the Gryffindor common room. She kicked something in the way and she took her wand out.
She muttered, "Lumos.", and the wand lit up.
She put the lit wand down to the ground and saw a farmiliar charm on the ground. It was the same charm Dumbledore had given Kayt before they had gone to sleep. It sparkled in the light and she quickly picked it up.
Hermione looked up the stares and saw the chain also sparkling as she picked it up. She ran up the stairs.
She ran through the hallways and she looked very worried. She couldn't find her so she walked back downstairs too find Professor McGonagal and Professor Dumbledore.
She ran into the Great Hall just in time.
"Ms. Granger!" hissed McGonagal as Hermioe ran over to her.
"It's Kayt! She's gone and i found this by the stairs!" Hermione panted as she held up the chain and the stone.
Professor McGonagal backed up and beckoned Hermione to follow her to go find Professor Dumbledore.
After they found him, Hermione explained what had happened. He got all the teachers to look for her.
"Kayt!" yelled Hermione, who was now alone in a dark hallway.
She was opening and closing doors looking for her. She was at the last door and there was nothin in it. She sat down with her back against the wall. She dropped her head back and she hit her head on something. She rubbed her head and moved the long rug that was on the wall. She looked and it was a passage. It was a round door and she opened it.
As she looked in she a hand hanging out of it she jumped but then looked further in and saw ti was Kayt. She pulled her out and quickly as possible and closed the door.
She saw Professor Dumbledore coming and pulled Kayt into the hallway.
"Professor! I found her!" yelled Hermione.
They brought her to the Hospital Wing. She was unconcious and Professor McGonagal escorted Hermione back to bed and all the other teachers watched the doors. Dumbledore stayed with Kayt and McGonagal helped.
Hermione couldn't sleep. She held Kayt's necklace and lay there awake until everyone else woke up.
Harry opened his eyes and didn't see Kayt next to him. He sat up and looked around.
"She's not here." muttered Hermione quietly.
"Where is she?!" asked Harry.
"She's in the Hopsital Wing."
"Why?! What happened."
"No one knows. No one knows that she's gone. I found her in this passage this morning."
"I'm going to go to her." Harry whispered as he started to get up.
"No, Harry, don't." said Hermione grabbing his shoulder.
"Why not?" asked Hary stopping in his tracks.
"Because. You don't want to see her. I don't even know what her condition is."
Harry ignored her and walked to the doors. Professor Trelawney brought him to the Hospital Wing. He ran over to her and just looked at her. She didn't look like she was alive at all. In fact, everyone would think she was dead until u noticed her breathing.
She was beat up very badly. She had ruises on her arms legs. There was a large cut on her face that was being attended to and she was barely breathing. She looked like she was put under the imperious curse for a short amount of time.
Harry pulled up a chair and sat next Kayt. He put her hand on his and begged her to wake up.
"Kayt, please wake up." he pleaded over and over as he moved random strands of hair from her face.
Her eyes slowly opened and she looked around.
"The necklace, where is it? He was after it." said Kayt.
"Miss Granger has it." said McGonagal.
Kayt relaxed and she looked over to Harry. She looked into his eyes and smiled.
"Who was after it? Was it Voldemort?" asked Harry smiling back.
Kayt swallowed hard and looked up at the ceiling.
