Hip Hop

The hip hop movement and information on the culture.
A lot of people mistake hip hop for a type of music. In reality hip is originally known as an American cultural movement, which is composed of, dancing, graffiti art, hip hop music(aka rap), DJing, and clothing styles. This page will explore all the aspects of the hip hop culture. You'll also learn about important people of hip hop.
Clothing styles are simple but there are a million diffrent urban clothing designers. For guys, the style is baggy jeans, Timberland Boots and long white T-shirts. Thats just the simple part of their clothing. some dress more to a thug appel, with bagger heans and hoodie sweat shirts and some prefer a more preppy (for lack of a better word) style, with disigner shirts and jeans, and exspancive sneakers.
For girls, its tight jeans and shirts and outfit sets, like a sweat outfit or a velore set.

Hip hop music has two main types: theres rap and R&B. Rap is music with a lot of bass and the lyrics rhyme. They are more spoken then song. R&B is song and the beats are alot like rap music beats. Only the lyrics dont rhyme as much and they arn't talking. There a about a million rap and R&B artists. Some of the great ones are Biggie Smalles, TuPac Sakur, Jay-Z, Missy Elliot, 50 Cent, and Eminem, R.Kelly, Mary J. Blidge, Aalyiah, 112, and Alicia Keys are the singers.

Another type of music that can be encourperated into the hip hop culture is reggae. It is a lot like rap and R&B, the only major diffrence is the Jamaican accent.

Dance

Dancing is a big thing in hip hop culture. It goes along with the music. Types of dances are brake dancing and area origenated dances. By area origenated dances I mean dances like the crypt walk which is popular on the west coast, the chicken head ,popular in the midwest, the east side stomp, popular in the south, and break dancing, popular in the northeast coast.

DJing and Scraching

If you ever been to a hip hop party, then u know the life of the party is the DJ. DJs bring all the music of hip hop and scrach it and practally make new music out of it. They put two songs togeather and u can dance to both at the same time.

Art

The art of hip hop is graffiti. In the late 60s, early 70s, graffiti made a huge impact in society, when it was used by political activists to rebel against their country's government. However, it also made an impact in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where many argue it originated. Gangs would use graffiti as a way of marking their territory in many communities. As time progressed, graffiti expanded to other American cities, most notably in New York City. This is where graffiti artists began to be recognized individually, and not through the gang or crew they were associated with. Cornbread and Cool Earl were the first artists to be known in New York City. By the 80s it made its way over seas. Around 85, graffiti went in hiding. It became illegal in some places and people started to cover up the graffiti, which lead to a decrease in artists. Now there are graffiti artist that usually do murals and such for buildings and get paid for I. There isnt really much vandilisam graffiti any more.
