• A notebook for your journal entries
• A portfolio folder
• A Blank 3.5 inch disk and case

Course Goals - At the end of this course I would like you to be able to:

• Write essays that are clear, accurate and grammatically correct
• Write essays that state and support a position, analyze, exemplify ideas and summarize of paraphrase other writer’s work using references
• Proofread and revise your essays for clarity, consistency, coherence and grammatical correctness
• Create an impressive portfolio

Course Requirements:

• Keeping a journal
• Eight assigned essays
• Classroom attendance. Students are required to attend every class. Occasionally there are conditions beyond a students control. If these count for any more than 1/8th of the course (that is two weeks of a sixteen week course), then the student should contact the instructor before returning to class or withdraw.

Portfolio Requirements – All students will submit a midterm and a final portfolio that will include:

Midterm:

• a cover letter
• one essay of your choosing

Final:

• a cover letter
• an unrevised, timed essay
• a revised, teacher-edited essay
• a revised, peer-edited essay

One of the revised essays must be reading based
