Course Goals - At the end of this course I would like you to be able to:
- Write essays that are clear, accurate and grammatically correct
- Write essays that state and support a position, analyze, exemplify ideas and summarize of paraphrase other writer’s work using references
- Proofread and revise your essays for clarity, consistency, coherence and grammatical correctness
- Create an impressive portfolio
Course Requirements:
- Keeping a journal
- Eight assigned essays
- Classroom attendance. Students are required to attend every class. Occasionally there are conditions beyond a students control. If these count for any more than 1/8th of the course (that is two weeks of a sixteen week course), then the student should contact the instructor before returning to class or withdraw.
Portfolio Requirements – All students will submit a midterm and a final portfolio that will include:
Midterm:
- a cover letter
- one essay of your choosing
Final:
- a cover letter
- an unrevised, timed essay
- a revised, teacher-edited essay
- a revised, peer-edited essay
One of the revised essays must be reading based
