What does heroin will look like?

• Pure heroin is a white powder with a bitter taste.
• Most illicit heroin varies in color from white to dark brown.
• "Black tar" heroin is sticky like roofing tar or hard like coal, and its color may vary from dark brown to black.

How is heroin used?

• Injecting
• Smoking
• Snorting

Some dangerous consequences of heroin use?

• One of the most significant effects of heroin use is addiction. Once tolerance happens, higher does become necessary to achieve the desired effect, and physical dependence develops.

• Chronic use may cause collapsed veins, infection of heart lining and valves, abscesses, liver disease, pulmonary complications, and various types of pneumonia.

• May cause depression of central nervous system, cloudy mental functioning, and slowed breathing to the point of respiratory failure.

• Heroin overdose may cause slow and shallow breathing, convulsions, coma, and possibly death.
• Users put themselves at risk for contracting HIV, hepatitis B and C, and other viruses.

Important Tips for Parents on drugs

Please do not think some people are immune to drugs.  No one is immune to drugs.

You can be the excellent parent, your children can be the best children, and you can have a amazing relationship, but they can just be in the wrong place at the wrong time and start something very wrong. However, certain groups of children seem more prone to using drugs than others . One powerful predictor for drug use is having friends who use drugs. The best way to encounter this is to know your children's friends,… not forgetting their parents.

It is time for parents to get involved in the schools, and know what's going on and know your neighborhood, because different places have different trends in drug use. If your child's school runs anti-drug programs, you must get involved. And you will learn something you probably did not know! We need to teach and learn as much about others as possible. Because ignorance is what builds the walls of inhumanity.

Just don’t give up the fight!

Children who are isolated from the mainstream for example, the growing lesbians in the country and the gay, or kids who have been depressed or have been abused in someway, are also more likely to spread the use drugs. So,…. Pay attention to how your children are, their feelings, and get them the right treatment immediately or as soon as possible when they need it.

The right kind of, open family environment is very important, where kids are encouraged to talk about their feelings without fear, where their achievements are praised and their self-esteem be reinforced and will encourage children to come forward with their questions and their concerns.

The freedom to talk, and each person must have the right to share thoughts, feelings and beliefs with others, with the opportunity to "accept the rights of others" .... this awareness is to be built everywhere possible.

Does it sound chicken fat? But it's true believe me, you will have to know your children, and what they're doing. Tell them and reiterate that there's always an open avenue of discussion. If they hear it often enough, then they’ll one fine day come forth. But if you say, 'we don't discuss that in this house, then you will be making rather a big mistake, because you are giving them room to go elsewhere and they will go! Do remember your home is the open venue for discussions, the foundation for building wealth and financial security for the family, and for providing the vital anchor needed for neighborhoods to thrive.
