With my deepest condolences again to the families of those who lost their dear ones.  
Tsunami which struck the whole of Asia would go down in history as a national and an international tragedy.  We must do whatever we can to  muster ? truly? to assist the people in the Islands and their families making sure that we have "no influence on wealth accumulations" in  dealing with this tragedy.   We have been affected - nation wide.   The gravity of the case, may never, never be fully understood.

Even though countries like India the US, and many other countries and major donors such as EU and the UN have given aid, in significant increase, now, we need to respond urgently with consideration to needs like shelter, sanitation, and Medicare to the Islanders.  These are urgently needed.  We ought to keep in mind that two-thirds of the population of Maldives - our country is grieving.

While relief efforts being in motion may not be to our expectations, accumulating more people in Male? where the risk for a disease like diarrhea and fever would spread fast and would make way for another hazard for everyone here in Male?.

It is important that we make sure to rectify and to have the right statistics of progress, verifying the services given by Government employees in the Islands such as Atoll chiefs, Katheebs and the non-governmental agencies and the task force in operations are, in performing their duties, when we are certain about reality and keeping in mind a proper structure is required urgently. Victims of the disaster cannot be pooled to live in tents for long with bottled Water!

As we now embark upon to carry out relief reconstruction works, we should give priority to the time-frame, be fast and to harness appropriate technologies and most cost effective strategies.  Specific needs of the people must be addressed and designed with meticulous care.  We must bear in mind that their water in the Islands are also contaminated.
