Chapter 1-4: Measuring Angles and Segments

Length of segment AB is written AB

AB - "What is the measure?"

AB=la-bl

a is the coordinate of A

b is the coordinate of B

AB=|-2 4|=6

Ruler Postualte: to find the distance between 2 points, subtract the measure and take the absolute value.

Segment Addition Postulate: If upi add two segments together, and they share only one common endpoint, then they add to make a bigger segment.

Example

Segment EF = 4x-20. Segment FG = 2x+30. Segment EG = 100. Fine x, EF, and FG.

To find X:

4x-20 + 2x+30 = 100

6x+10 = 100

6x = 90

x = 15

To find EF:

EF = 4x-20

EF = 4(15)-20

EF = 60-20

EF = 40

To find FG:

FG = 2x+30

FG = 2(15)+30

FG = 30+30

FG = 60

Angles

Ang angle is formed by two rays (called sides) with the same endpoint (called the vertex).

Line BA and Line BC are the sides. B is the vertex.
