Beowulf, which was written in
Old English between the eighth
and tenth century A.D.,
describes the adventures of a
strong Scandinavian warrior who
risks his life to save
the Danes.
Beowulf is the oldest surviving
epic in British literature, and
exists in only one manuscript.
This copy bears scars from fires
and wars, but it survived for
the most part, and is now housed
in the British Library in London.
