  Aloha!

[---> Click on station name for jingles/sweepers <---]

Just got back from a super trip to Hawaii and did a lot of taping while I was there.

In Hawaii, there are an amazing number of Hawaiian music stations, with different target audiences. They range from the classic "Aloha o'e" type of songs to stations that are very reggae influenced, to all points in between. They have been so successful that even the "normal" format stations have been known to add a Hawaiian song or two to their lineup. I've recorded a collection of many of those types (minus the far reggae extreme).

I have a 6 page article from "Spirit of Aloha" magazine that talks about the proliferation and evolution of Hawaiian music on the Hawaiian airwaves that I can share with anyone interested.

A small explanation of the Hawaiian stations that I recorded (total list of stations recorded follow this):

KITH "Travelhost Radio" - classic Hawaiian targeted towards tourists, multi-minute spots on real estate for sale.
KSRF "The Surf" - leans towards the reggae-ish side.
KINE "Hawaiian 105" - classic Hawaiian and pop songs turned into Hawaiian (station has jingles).
KAPA - "Today's Best Hawaiian Music" - traditional Hawaiian.
KPOA "Island Sounds" - bizarre. Targeted towards locals. A Christian/Hawaiian song, followed by a somewhat reggae-ish song, a version of the Pina Colada song, a song about stinky luau feet, then a song about the wrongs America did to conquer Hawaii, and a classic Hawaiian song. What a very weird format.
