  BLAST FROM THE FUTURE

Introduction

It is the year 3147, the world has changed a lot in the last millennium.  You and your friends are out, flying around in your space ship and you run out of fuel.  YOU CRASH!  Luckily, the protective layer on the space ship prevented you from serious injury.  However, you are stuck, on Earth (a place that you and your family vacationed on last summer).  You get out of your ship and realize that you've landed in a ghost town, on top of a building called the Empire State Building.  There, you discover a time capsule from the year 2000.  There are numerous items within it from the Twentieth Century.

The Mission

You and your friends realize that you're going to be stuck in this "ghost town" for a while.  Rather than sitting around and feeling sorry for yourselves, you decide to make good use of your time and talents.  You each take out your hand-held computers, and get to work researching the items in the time capsule.

Artist - You will research a song, dance, and painting.

Historian - You will research a landmark and two events.

Technician - You will research the telephone, computer and airplane.

Sports Fan - You will research a baseball, football, and basketball player.

The Process

When was the Twentieth Century?  How many years ago was it?  What were some of the major technological, political, economic, and cultural influences of the time?  How did these items affect the time period?

These are suggested strategies for success in "2000 Quest."

1.  Decide who will take which role on your team.

2.  Once you have assigned the roles on your team, each member should click on his or her individual goals and read the contents to get a feel for each individual task.  Analyze how your role relates to the other members of the team.

3.  Use the "Game Plan" provided to guide you in your 2000 Quest.  This is a step by step list of questions with some suggested resources to aide you in your study of the Twentieth Century.

4.  Check in with your teacher from time to time as you proceed from one question to the next.

5.  As you finish one question, be sure to discuss your findings with your fellow teammates and what aspects of each question would pertain to your specific role on this team.

6.  Once you have finished all of the questions, go to The Task for help with the presentation of your report.
