I'll tell you what. With the exception of wrestling, sports, and Comedy Central, TV has been a major turn-off to me for quite a while. It's like everyone has at least one show during the week on TV that they absolutely can't miss. My mom has The Bachelor, my dad has 24, my girlfriend had Dawson's Creek. Everyone around me has their personal show. A show so compelling that you can NOT interrupt them while watching. I was beginning to feel left out, until now.

ESPN Original Entertainment's Playmakers was this past season's hottest and most controversial drama. Playmakers is the story of the behind-the-scenes and off-the-field lives of the players, coaches, families, and owner of a fictional professional football team. It aired in the prime time slot of 9:00 PM eastern standard time and was an hour in length. Much like many police investigation shows, Playmakers takes from real life headlines in sports to add to the reality of their show. It's a show that I definitely recommend to any professional football fan, or any prime time television watcher willing to try something new.

Unfortunately, It's looking more and more like we won't be seeing Playmakers return for a second season. The show has been condemned by NFL executives who claim that the show is a "negative and false portrayal of the NFL and it's players and coaches". Therefore, the NFL is putting pressure on ESPN (a Disney-owned network) to get rid of the show. Rumor has it that the NFL is threatening to take away Monday Night Football, currently being showed on ABC (another Disney-owned network), which is a key male demographic for ABC. It's definitely not looking good, but let's hope that this can all be worked out and we can look forward to a second season of Playmakers.
