Tinbuttu Rally

RIDERS AND BIKES

All riders must have a valid motorcycle license. No insurance of any kind is being furnished by the Rally. Riders are responsible for their own health, life, and disability insurance. All bikes must be registered, inspected, and insured. No trikes or sidecars are allowed. Trailers are allowed. Passengers are allowed and there is no additional fee for them.
REGISTRATION AND WAIVERS

Registration/start will be from 5 to 7 PM Friday only.
Registration fee is $20 per bike, cash only, payable by check or money order with mail registration.
Each rider must read the Rules, Waiver, and Guidelines, prior to signing the waiver, and then complete the Registration Form. The Registration form, Waiver, and fee must be received by August 29, 2008.
When ready to leave the start site, the rider rides to the start point and has official complete the rider's Registration Form with odometer reading and time. You must be on your bike for the completion of the registration process. If you are riding with a passenger, the passenger must also be on the bike.
The official will note the time (rounded up to the next five minute interval) and odometer reading on the Registration form. Official will give the rider a card with his/her starting odometer reading and time for reference only. Rider's time starts when registration is complete. Rider must be ready to start at completion of registration. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Rider must be back within 48 hours of his/her start time. Completion time is rounded up to the next five minute interval. For each five minute interval late, 5 miles will be deducted from the rider's mileage. For compass point awards, and for highest straight line distance awards, mileage will be deducted from the mileage determining award. For maximum state awards, a state will be deducted for each 15 minutes of late arrival, as well as the deductions from overall mileage. Anyone arriving more than 30 minutes late (i.e. more than 48 hours and 30 minutes after their start time) will be disqualified from all award categories. PLAN ACCORDINGLY!

Upon arrival, rider rides to official (same location as start point) and official notes rider's license plate number, mileage and time. You must be on your bike to register your arrival. Official collects receipts, which will be returned if requested by rider.
Receipts submitted as proof of states visited or locations reached should be machine generated and contain location and date. If the receipt is for a point reached on Friday, the receipt must also have the time on it. Examples of valid receipts are toll, credit card, and store cash register. Gas stations will usually run a blank credit card receipt for you that contains their location, time, and date if you want to pay with cash. Acceptance of any handwritten receipts is at discretion of judges, and are subject to verification.

AWARDS

High mileage award is for maximum miles traveled. Start and stop odometer reading will be taken, but final mileage will be determined by the Delorme Street Atlas mapping software. Riders are required to furnish receipts indicating time, date, and location, which will be used by the software to measure the route. Please be sure to provide receipts that will make your route clear, especially receipts obtained to document the point where a change in direction of the route was taken.
Starting in 2005, there will be two high mileage awards. One for extreme high mileage and the other for regular high mileage. To be eligible for either award, a rider must declare at the start of the Rally which s/he will be going for. Riders who have completed an "Extreme Ride" as defined by the Iron Butt Association can only register for the extreme high mileage award. The cutoff for the higher class will be 1,700 miles.

Second Awards are as follows:
Furthest Straight line from start point: This will be measured as a straight line from Southfields NY to the city or town that the rider provides proof of visiting (see instructions on receipts above).

Furthest point in each direction: This will be awarded to the riders who goes furthest in each of the four directions, east, west, north, and south. You do not have to go in a straight line east, west, etc. The award is for the eastern most point, western most point etc. You may not have to go far for this one. If, for example, all riders head west, north, and south, one can win the east award for just going to Connecticut. Proof of location reached is required to win this award.

Most States or Provinces Award: All entrants receive credit for New York State without proof. Proof is required for all other states and provinces. Canadian provinces are equal in value to U.S. states. In the event that two or more riders have documented the same number of states or provinces, the award will go to the rider with the greatest mileage. This mileage will be determined from the receipts from each state, as well as any other receipts that the rider wishes to submit such as those for toll, fuel, motel, and restaurant.

Most Unusual Site(s) or route: This is an open category subject to the judges' opinion. Winner could visit several unusual sites, one extremely unusual one, or have a creative route. Proof is required, but some bending of rules may be done at the judges' discretion. There may be no winner for this award.

Note: In case of tie in any of the second awards, rider with the most overall miles will win.

Completion Certificate. All riders completing at least 1,000 miles will receive this certificate. Start and stop odometer reading will determine mileage.

All awards and certificates will be mailed to winners.

If you have any questions on the above rules, please ask them before registering.
Rally will be held rain or shine. If weather forecast is particularly bad, the Rally will not be held, and registrants will be contacted the Thursday evening before the Rally. If sufficient registrants are available the following weekend, the rally will be held at that time.
