The last time Steve updated the terminal: January 2012 (CONSTANT WORK IN PROGRESS) A new Campus Bus Operator/Provider has been chosen. Starting July 1, 2011, First Transit will provide the campus bus service for Rutgers University. Academy will continue as the intercampus bus service provider until June 30, 2011. Academy will continue to provide charter service on Rutgers, which includes the Football games, the Summer Sports Campus, and the New Student Orientation activities/events. Academy will use their own buses for this... which sometimes will include former campus buses with the Rutgers logo removed; but still in the Rutgers colors. RELEASE
INFORMATION/SECTIONS CURRENTLY
UPDATED:
>>GATE 1: STARTING FALL SEMESTER 2011: THE WARD SHUTTLE/NEW BRUNSQUICK SHUTTLE ROUTE IS BEING CHANGED. ASSUMING THINGS GO AS PLANNED, THERE WILL BE TWO ROUTES... ONE A VARIATION OF THE CURRENT ROUTE NOW CALLED THE 'NEW BRUNSQUICK 1' (aka Ward 1 Route) , AND THE OTHER A "COUNTER CLOCKWISE" or "REVERSE" VERSION/VARIATION OF THE CURRENT ROUTE CALLED THE 'NEW BRUNSQUICK 2' (aka Ward 2 Route). THE "F" ROUTE THESE STOPS WERE ADDED BACK TO THE F ROUTE MID SEPTEMBER 2012. LABOR EDUCATION STOP ELIMINATED
FROM EE, WEEKEND 1, WEEKEND 2, ALL CAMPUSES ROUTES LATE FALL 2011.
SPRING 2012: HEALTH CENTER STOP ELIMINATED FOR LX, WEEKEND 1, WEEKEND 2, ALL CAMPUES, AND THE B ROUTES. HOWEVER THAT WAS CHANGED TO ONE 'B' BUS DESIGNATED AS THE "B-He" STOPPING THERE. >>GATE 3: When First Transit starts operation on campus past 7/1/2011: An ever changing/updated list of buses and model types. Some preliminary info is already up. >>Due to ever changing Livingston Campus landscape (new buildings), the Beck Hall bus stop has been removed. A new replacement stop called Livingston Plaza has been posistioned several yards up the road from Beck. Lot 100 stop also removed, in part as Lot 100 no longer exists. >> >> TO BE UPDATED (EVENTUALLY): >>Discussion of the hours of bus service (Gate 6). >>Discussion about the former 'whereismybus.com' (Gate 8) SOME INFO ABOUT THE NEW RUTGERS BUS ONLINE TRACKING SYSTEM: >>All links to whereismybus.com on this bus info/fan site have been removed from the route descriptions/sections in Gates 1 and 2. Rutgers students/facutly/staff will be able to use a much better system to track the buses online. Whereismybus.com slowly became more a nuisance than an aid, with the system unable to display the buses (at all or not properly) as time progressed. The system hit a slight low when most of it wasn't working during the Fall 2005 semester. (Thus the reason why I removed the links on this site.) Fear not, as something new will replace the whereismybus system that had been in place for since 2002, and it's called "Nextbus." This was hinted on/talked about on and off throughout the University's newspaper, "The Daily Targum," so this isn't sudden and new to some people. Go to "www.nextbus.com" to learn more about the system that IS IN place eventually for the Rutgers community. Other cities/organizations/universities already use the Nextbus system. Having this for one of the more sizable transit systems in the country will greatly help! One of the main differences between whereismybus and Nextbus is that you will be able to see the approximate arrival times of the buses to a particular stop... in actual minutes. With WIMB, you HAD TO guess how long it would take for a bus to get there based on the bus icon and its position on the map. Nextbus will take some of the guesswork out of your way. Keep in mind that Nextbus isn't perfect either (but it's a much bigger improvement to WIMB). Everything DOES have its limitations! I will talk more about Nextbus more when it becomes available. Also, I will update this site with a little history about "whereismybus" when the system finally becomes obsolete/replaced.

'Rule' 1: Most of the information was gathered by the terminal (site) owner-Steve (the self-proclaimed, Unofficial ,FORMER STUDENT NOW RU EMPLOYEE, Rutgers Bus Expert), by maps and handouts from Rutgers Department of Transportation Services, or by information from credible sources. If you doubt the material on these pages, then you can always go to the official source-though they will say the same things for the most part... There may be some information here that was calculated/ deduced personally (and information obtained from credible sources WITHIN Rutgers). Credit is given to outside, unafflilated sources to where it's due, after all no one is perfect and there are things that some of us will never know, but others may! Also, the information found on this page/site is as accurate and up to date as possible. Steve is not responsible for sudden/ abrupt last minute changes that the system implements. Remember, this information is just suggestions, listings, etc. What you do with the information is all up to you. All times are approximated (by Rutgers DOT Services), as traffic, weather, or mechnical problems may occur [times derived from posted schedules at bus stops, DOT site, handouts, etc.]. Again, all information is assumed to be update to date-unless noted that the information needs to be updated; the information needs to come in, but said material is reserved to be updated at the/any appopriate time!!! The terminal (site and it contents) was created/maintained with as much neutrality as possible. Though there might be some indications of bias in either direction at times, I try my best to keep an open mind/ stance in general. Of course I'm not going to hold back in praising/denouncing things if and when the need arises. Plus expressing one's opinions is important as well! 'Rule' 2: The terminal (site) owner DOESN'T OWN THE JAPANESE ANIMATION CHARACTERS FOUND IN THE TERMINAL. If anyone associated with said characters (or Rutgers P&T Services, and any related department/company) has a problem with me the use of anime/ cartoon characters/ pictures in this fashion, please e-mail Steve, and he will take them down if requested (or if there are problems [i.e. it's very existence] with this terminal (buspages) in general. The pictures used here are to liven/humor up the page.
*****The
site was visited in February 2003 by the head of (then) Rutgers Parking
and Transportation (at the time), Bob Spear himself. Nothing bad
was said about this site after getting a message from him, so it's a good
thing!!!
