WEDGE: An object with at least one slanting side ending in a sharp edge. It can cut or spread an object apart.

 
Objectives:  Student will be able to:  identify a wedge as an object with at least one slanting side ending in a sharp edge, make a wedge and explore how it is used to make work easier.

Materials:

Question:  What is a wedge and how does it make work easy?

Procedure:
 

 No Wedge  l
Skinny Wedge  l
Fat Wedge l

 


Consider these questions and write your answers in your journal:

Conclusion:  When students push down on the wedge the blocks move further apart.  The thicker the wedge the further apart the blocks will move.
