SCREW: A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a pole.

 

Objectives:

Student will be able to: identify a screw as an inclined plane wrapped around a pole, make a screw and explore how it makes work easier.

Materials:

• Science Journal

• paper
• pencil
• tape
• crayon

Questions:   Can you make a model of a screw? How does it make work easier?
 

Procedure:

• Give each group of students the materials.

• Give each student a paper right-triangle and have the longest side colored.

• Tape one of the uncolored sides of the triangle to the pencil.

• Wrap the triangle around the pencil and tape down.

• The triangle wraps in a spiral.

• Draw and interpret results
