Activity One: Data Collection
Overview
In this activity, the students will access two internet sites where
they will retrieve pollen count and weather data for a period of one month.
The students will enter this data onto a data collection sheet provided
by the teacher. The students will use the collected data for data analysis
in Activity Two.
Objectives

Learner will be able to retrieve information from an internet site.

Learner will be able to record information on a chart.
Materials
Time
The data collection will take approximately 15 minutes each morning
for one month. If possible, assign a student with home internet access
to collect the information on Saturday and Sunday.
Procedure

Before beginning this lesson access, bookmark, and become familiar
with the Weather.com
and
The
Weather Underground sites.

Determine the groupings in which the students will collect the data (individually,
small groups, etc.)

Make and distribute student copies of the Data
Collection Sheet.

Direct students to the Data Collection Directions
and tell them to follow the directions.

After the students have collected data for several days, direct them to
write any observations about the data they have collected in their journals.

After the students have collected the data for one month, they will complete
the data analysis in Activity Two.
