Monte Cristo

Cristopher William Crawley is the builder of the Monte Cristo. Unlike most of the owners of such houses, Mr. Crawley was not afraid to get his hands dirty and work. He built a hotel opposite of a railway and also expanded the amount of land that he owned, alone with the rest of his wealth. He became one of the most powerful forces to be reckoned with.

By the 1870's, he had enough wealth to reflect it, so he planned Monte Cristo, which was built in 1876.(MonteCristo.com)It was the most opulent and commodius house in all of Austrailia for quite some time, and still remains on of the sturdiest houses built. In 100 years of being lived in, not one crack has appeared in its walls. So, overall his life was wonderful, he had 7 children, a wife, wealth, respect, and everything else a man could want.

The children were sent away to a dormitory schools and were taught in the arts. The brightest of the children, Lillian, became quite recognized for not only her talent in music, but her stunning violet eyes.

Mrs.Crawley was the true master of the house, however. She made sure that the servants did there job well...or else. There are many stories of harsh mistreatment by this woman. Soon, Mr.Crawley died from a heart failure and blood poisoning. Mrs. Crawley stayed for 23 years alone, in the house, never daring to go outside again.

Monte Cristo can still be seen today, although it has been vandelized.
