Karen
Terry, the JET in charge, led prospective judges through trial judging of
various Moves-in-the-Field and Freeskate test elements. Kathy Slack worked with judges who also
shared their comments after the demonstration skaters finished. Ice House coach Edward Van Campen
coordinated the demonstration skaters. |
Judges
and prospective judges also took part in discussions during a working lunch
break. Karen Terry and Kathy Slack
facilitated an analysis of the on-ice session and guided participants through
writing comments that provide testers with positive feedback. Craig Maurizi, director of figure skating
at the Ice House, reacted to the comments from a coaches perspective to help
the judges understand what coaches need from test comment sheets, especially
for tests that require a retry. |

Approximately
30 skaters volunteered to demonstrate elements from the Moves-in-the-Field
tests, Freeskate tests, and competition short programs. During
the final third of the school, prospective judges met with Karen Terry to
discuss how to mark competition programs and general judging etiquette. Participants who were already judges
returned to the ice with Kathy Slack to evaluate competition short programs
and review the presentation mark. |
Funding for the judges
school was provided by the United States Figure Skating Association, New
Jersey Council of Figure Skating Clubs, and American Academy FSC. |
Thank you to Craig
Maurizi, Edward Van Campen, and the demonstration skaters: |
