What is Life Science?
Life Science is the second of three courses that comprise the middle school science sequence. It is preceded by a General Science Course and followed by a course in Earth Science. Collectively, the three courses provide a comprehensive survey of science at an appropriate level while preparing students for high school science and their role in an ever increasing technological society. Special attention has been paid to include reading and writing activities so as to develop communication skills along with the content mastery and critical thinking skills unique to science.
The course is divided into four main units.
- Unit 1: What is a Living Thing?
- Unit 2: Biodiversity of Living Things
- Unit 3: Classification of Living Things
- Unit 4: Interactions of Living Things and the Biosphere
During the fourth marking period, your child will also be a part of an interdisciplinary unit, "Patterns of a Civilization". Our goal is for students to see a common thread of patterns within a civilization.
