Red spotted-red legged crustacean
Habitat: This animal lives in the Atlantic Ocean. It is native to
the coastal waters of New Jersey. It is often found close to shore and often
falls victim to the local N.J. fishermen.
Food Source:
Plankton, small fish, seaweed, various trash left by the visitors to the shore.
Predators: Large fish, other crustaceans, and Homo sapiens (humans)
Structural
Adaptations: Poisonous ink gland located on the
back of the crustacean. This gland will spray poisonous ink whenever the animal
feels danger is lurking. Predators can be blinded by this dangerous ink.
