FAQ's

How do I check up on my child’s grades?

Your child will be responsible for keeping an accurate and up to date grade page in their science notebook. This page will allow both you and your child to check on their progress at any time. The grade page will be sent home for you to review and sign at the middle and end of every marking period.

What is the grading procedure?

Your child’s grade is determined by the total number of points they earn in a marking period. Naturally, the more points they earn the more successful they have been. You can easily calculate your child’s grade by using the following equation:

(Total Points Earned / Total Possible Points) X 100% = Grade

What type of assignments will my child have?

Your child will have many opportunities to earn points during a marking period through a variety of assignments such as: classwork, labs, tests and quizzes, a notebook grade, projects and homework. They will also earn a preparation and participation grade.

What should I do if I want to get in touch with you about my child’s progress?

Prior to our discussion, it would be very helpful if you reviewed your child’s grade page, table of contents and notebook. This way we can have very specific items to talk about and can be on the "same page".

How can my child improve their science grade?

Your child will have the opportunity to correct all graded assignments. A failing grade will be raised to a C-, if corrected correctly. A passing grade will be raised to the next letter grade if corrected correctly.

What times are you available for extra help?

The days/times that I am available during a particular week will be posted on your child’s daily homework board. There will be opportunities in the morning, during Study Lunch and after school if necessary.

How can my child find out what work they missed due to an absence?

There are many ways such as: reviewing the model notebook and HW calendar, contacting a HW buddy or connecting to the classroom website.
