Common Name: Surprise Attack Spider
Habitat: This feisty spider resides in underground tunnels in the
plains of the Mid-Western United States. The spider is an unwelcome guest for
the field mice who also live in the corn and wheat fields. The spider waits for
the field mice to return home to their burrows and attacks them at the
entrance.

Predators: Hawks
Structural Adaptations: The Pincher Tail is used by the spider to greet the
unsuspecting field mice when they return to their burrows. The prey are pierced
and killed by the pincher tail. The spider then drags the prey to its tunnel.
