The Silence of September

Silence for a moment
Imagining the shattered lives
Feeling the shattered glass falling all around
Mounds of ashes blanketing what now is hallowed ground

Silence in the trees
Silence in the skies
In the memories of their loved ones
that flash before their eyes

Silence in the moment
As their minds dare to imagine
The fear, the pain,
and then………..the peace
that pierces through our hearts

Pain in the numbness
Darkness in the light

Silence in the shadow of the lights
Working late into the night
Silence in the breathlessness of each hero
As they approach another one
Is it death or is it life?

Silence for the heroes
Silence for the victims
Silence for the children
Who live and learn from this pain
And for those who died in vain

Silence for the child’s tears
Imagining the scars that will take so long to heal
Imagining the loved one
Who’s all alone today
Searching impossibly for the right words to say

Silence in the images
In the eyes and in the cries
Silence roaring in the night
It thundered as the earth still burned
What a lesson we’d just learned

We hold our candles high tonight
We gather around our separate sites
To cry and share and learn
That we are not alone no matter the circumstance
We are America, We are Americans
We share
One voice, one heart, one dance.

As many American's are, my heart is patriotically moved to honor those who's journeys took them to this moment in time. To this time of sorrow and tragedy for the loved ones left behind. Each having a purpose here, touching each and every family member, each and every friend, each and every partner, and as of September 11, 2001 touching the life of every American through out the world.
Many who's personal journey's have changed our lives forever. Many who did not know their journey on earth would end that day. Each life lived to it's fullest as it was intended to do, each life uniting all Americans, to stand together, to stand up for freedom, to believe in each other, despite our differences.
