MY HEART'S SONG

2001 LIMITED EDITION

THE song of the year in 1948 was "my Heart's Song" -- from the film of the same name starring none other than Gene Marshall. Businessmen whistled it on the streets, housewives hummed it as they hung out the laundry, children were lulled into slumber by it's beauty.

In the movie, Gene captured audiences' hearts as a spirited postwar career woman who goes from receptionist in a music publishing house to the top of the world -- all due to a stranger and a song from the heart.

The young receptionist in the story had befriended a handsome older street musician during her lunchtime walks. She would chat with him about music, life -- and press a coin into his hand. One day, he pressed something into HER hand. "For you", he said, "from my heart.". Opening it, she discovered it was a song that filled her heart with emotion. But when she looked up to thank him, he had disappeared.

The song, however, helped catapult her to the top of the music industry. And still she looked for her man of mystery. Then, one night, in the office lobby -- she came face to face with an impeccably dressed man holding a bouquet of roses: her mysterious stranger -- in reality a fabled European composer who had lost faith in his talent. "And," he told her, "it was you who taught me that if someone believes in you, you can't help but believe in yourself." And they fell into each others' arms, their hearts singing a duet that would go on forever. (story from the Story Card)
