How You Can Help

Still unsure about rescue? Why not try fostering a dog first? One of the best ways to help out rescue efforts is to give love, care and attention to a dog until it is adopted by fostering it in your home. Fostering allows a person to gain experience with the breed, find out if the Pit Bull is the right breed for them, and help the rescues. Many people foster on a regular basis--they keep a dog in their home until it is adopted, then bring in another needy Pit Bull and the cycle repeats. But beware! Foster babies very often end up staying permenently, as all too often their foster families grow too attached to give them up and decide to keep them forever.

Even if you choose not to adopt a rescue dog, there are still ways to help!

You can sponser a Pit Bull at a rescue or shelter by comitting to pay its food, vet and housing bills for a certain time or until it is aopted. This is another great way to help out without actually having to bring a dog into your home.

Rescues always have bills to pay--vet bills, food bills, phone bills, travel costs, housing and kennel bills, etc. Organized fund raises are a big help, as well as funds gathered from various sources. Perhaps there is a product you could sell and distribute, with a percentage of the profits going to rescue. Encourage others to give funds to help needy Pit Bulls. Website owners: many large online selling companies have affiliate programs--all you have to do is sign up and place a link on your site. Join affiliate programs and donate the profits to rescue. These are just some ways a person could help raise money for rescue.

Other ways you can help:

*Offer to build a website for a rescue, showcasing dogs they have up for adoption, and ways to donate.

*Help man a booth at an adoption day.

*Exercise and train dogs who are up for adoption--a well-mannered dog may be more likely to find a home.

*Encourage others who are seeking a dog to check out rescue.

*Educate people on the real Pit Bull. The more people learn about the breed and learn to appreciate it, the less dogs will end up in need of rescue.
