Important Notice: Always bring your SMART membership card
with you whenever you are doing trail maintenance at Mercer County Park.
Only SMART members are permitted to perform trail maintenance. Park Rangers
may question anyone in the park carrying trail maintenance tools. If you
are going to perform trail maintenace individually (not on a scheduled
group TM day), please notify the Mercer County Park Rangers (609 443-8956)
prior to working in the park. Also, email SMART as to what areas you will
be working on, how many volunteers, etc.
Before a TM Day: If possible, please check this page the day before
the scheduled TM for notice of cancellation or postponement.
In the event of rain: On TM Day, if it is already raining steadily
at 8:00 am, the TM event is cancelled for that day. If the rain is light
or scattered, the TM Day is still on. Please dress appropriately.
Typical TM Day Agenda: Volunteers meet in the designated parking lot
at 9:00 am. We will divide into work parties and hike (or bike) into the
work areas. We usually finish up no later than 2:00 pm. Tasks will include:
clearing overgrowth, removing small blowdown, litter collection (depends
on turn-out).
Stuff to bring: work gloves, pruning shears, bow saw, hatchet, machete, snacks/lunch, water, etc. Additional
TM Days will be scheduled as needed, or if weather causes a postponement
of a scheduled TM Day. Check here for updates. Input from SMART Trail
Bosses and members is always appreciated regarding scheduling, areas that
need attention, etc.

TM volunteers are people who have performed trail maintenance at Mercer
County Park (after having signed the waiver of liability). SMART membership
is strongly recommended if you wish to do TM at Mercer. It is recommended
that individual TM volunteers contact SMART to notify us of their planned
activities prior to working on the trails.
