CREATION FESTIVAL 2003
|
Thursday |
Ready for the second day of Creation, I woke up fairly early this morning. I wouldn't have ever thought getting just a stupid shower would be an exhausting and time consuming project! I got everything I needed for my shower by 7am, but yet I would have to walk and wait in line for a total of over 2 hours! My walk back from the Giant Center required:
1) going to Hershey Park Stadium from the Giant Center via one of the trams provided by Hershey Park.
2) then walk past the main stage and cross the only crosswalk designated within reach in order to avoid paying a fine of $100
3) walk all the way through section A and through section D in order to get to my campsite on section C
Afterward, it meant doing the same thing, only doing it in reverse in order to get to the first event that I was able to attend that day - Superchic(k). Fortunately, that's the only rant I had about this festival being held in Hershey Park this year!
Superchic(k)
Superchic(k) is the first event I attended today, and their concert was really good. They're a unique rock band that's gotten some recent secular attention by doing the theme to MTV's reality show, The Real World. I tried taking some pictures, but from where I stood and the stage lighting, the nearly dozen or so picture I've taken were hopeless. They played some of the songs I expected to hear, including "Barlow Girls", "Karaoke Superstars", "One Girl Revolution", and "Big Star Machine".

The Creation Forum Meet
This meet was well arranged by a guy I knew from the Creation forum named Terry (a.k.a. Tmac). This was the most successful meet he arranged, and about a dozen people attended including me, Denise, Katie (KJ), and Doug T. (a.k.a. the Old Bald Guy), Pete, and a guy that comes all the way from Holland named Andre.

Pete and Katie
This meet was held in front of Chocolate World during the time that Dove Award winner, Jeremy Camp played. The meet lasted an hour, and we spent time chatting and joking around, and we were all sort of like in shock to even see each other in person!

The photos above were sent to me from Denise. She took two really nice shots of the Creation Forum regulars, and she wanted me to share them to you! (Many thanks, Denise!)

Pillar rocking the main stage.
Pillar
Just after the meet, Pillar had already started, and they only get better as I see them. They always speak a wonderful message within their rap-core style. I fell in love with this band instantly during a Christian festival last year known as LambJam. I've also seen them perform at the See Spot Rock festival in Philadelphia. They did songs from both of their albums - Above, and their newly re-released, Fireproof, which comes in a much more inspired package from a secular record label. Their performance was very impressive, and did several of my most favorite songs, Fireproof, Indivisible, Further, and Echelon. I've seen them perform impressively twice before, and this performance at Creation is no exception.

Switchfoot bringing a powerful message through their music.
Switchfoot
Being a fan of Switchfoot for only three months or so, I really enjoyed their stunning performance. They played favorites from their newest release, The Beautiful Letdown including, "Gone", and "This is Your Life". One of my favorite instruments is the guitar - especially the acoustic and electric guitars. I liked how the lead sang into the guitar to make a very interesting sound during the latter part of their set.

Switchfoot's lead sings through his guitar.
They've also played a song that pop sensation, Mandy Moore performed one of my favorite movies, A Walk to Remember. A Walk to Remember is about a Pastor's daughter, who was often ridiculed for what she believed in, and was dying of leukemia.

Alathea performs with guitars and other cool things.
Alathea
Afterward, I hopped on a tram back to Giant Center for some relaxation and air conditioning. Alathea was the perfect band to chill with. They're a southern folk group. Their performance was very impressive. They were originally supposed to perform for Creation's Acoustic Cafe, but because of the move to Hershey Park, they became a Fringe Stage band. It's really amazing that they can do with a water bottle, a washboard, and a guitar!

Megan at the CD shop as I was purchasing a Newsboys CD. I first met her last year at the CD shop.
After coming back to the Stadium from a refreshing performance with Alathea, I decided to stop by the CD shop to pick up Newsboys' newest CD, Adoration. I saw Megan again at a much smaller CD shop than last year - located near the main stage. I also met her last year at the CD shop.

The Katinas on fire for Christ!
The Katinas
The Katinas are a very powerful Christian band. They make their home at a Nashville area church, and they do concert tours across the country. I really like the Katinas a lot because they're very passionate about serving the Lord, and it shows very much in their music.

The Katinas leading the audience for praise and worship.
You must be asking yourself what my favorite songs from them are? Well... I like the songs, Thank You, Mighty River, and Beauty of Your Grace, as well as classics like, Trading My Sorrows, Lord I Lift Your Name on High, and I Give You My Heart. Another favorite of mine is called Chant, which is really the song that goes... "Gimme a J... E... S... U... S...". It's one of the coolest songs from them. They performed an awesome set that consisted of the songs that I mentioned. Whether you've seen this group in concert or not, definitely pick up a copy of their Lifestyle CD. It has many of the songs that they perform in concert.

Dave - a guy that I met after The Katinas.
After The Katinas performed, I ran into a really cool guy named David who has a website filled with many cool pictures and also some info about his band, LastDaze.

A screen shot of Ken Davis speaking.
Ken Davis
Ken Davis's message, titled "Good News" was very inspiring. I've seen this guy last year, and was the guy that had the deformity on his arm and was saved through a public school teacher. He also mentioned another speaker that I enjoy listening to named David Ring; he has cerebral palsy, and is married to a beautiful wife and 4 beautiful children.
Sixpence None The Richer
This band gets a lot of recognition in both the Christian and secular world. I used to hear their single, "Kiss Me", at least once every Friday or Saturday night back in 2000 on a secular pop station, just before I started listening to Christian music. I still enjoy listening to that song today. Little did I know until recently did I know that they were a Christian rock band.

A guy holding up a beach ball, written in big letters saying "I'M-HAVING-A-BALL-AT-CREATION". He's sure said it!
I was delighted to see them for the first time at Creation. Their performance is very impressive, although the lead (which has that unique, beautiful voice) seemed a bit distanced from the audience. It's definitely a band that I would like to see again!
Steve Taylor Band
Steve Taylor wrote a handful of songs for Newsboys. He was also the guy that starts out with a video that has a lot of "stupid humor" if you know what I mean. His performance is pretty good so to speak.
After his performance, this festival surprised everyone with a cool speaker named Darrel Greene - formerly of the Washington Redskins.
Newsboys
Here's a band that presents themselves with a humorous approach, but they take their faith in God seriously. They've performed really cool songs including "Breakfast", "It is You", and "Million Pieces". It's a wonderful way to conclude Thursday night.

Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
