10 Best Christian Artists
IN THEO’s OPINION
Last updated July 7, 2004
Having listened to dozens and dozens of Christian artists ranging from Audio Adrenaline to ZoeGirl, it is never easy to choose exactly who my most favorite artist is, so it’s very likely to change from time to time. For now, the artists below are my most favorite (1 being my most favorite).
1. Newsboys
A praise and worship band that Christians have loved for many years. Their music is always recorded and performed with their sincerity to the Christian faith and delivers powerful, yet sometimes amusing messages around catchy rhythms.
My most favorite songs from them are Breakfast, Entertaing Angels, It Is You, and He Reigns. The best albumks in my opinion are Adoration and Take Me To Your Leader.
2. Tobymac and Tait (Tied)
Both Tobymac and Michael Tait are members of the popular band, DC Talk. DC Talk "took a break" to do solo works back in 2001 even though the group is still together. Tobymac and Tait's music styles in their solo works are totally different, I felt they should be awarded the same for their musical excellence and their interaction with their fans.
Tobymac's style used in his latest release, Momentum, is mainly hip-hop. He also uses several really cool singers to back him up. The songs I like most from him are Get This Party Started, J-Train and Irene.
Michael Tait formed his own rock band known as Tait. Having already released two CDs in his 3-year stint as a solo artist, his music carries really cool messages throughout his albums.
I met this band in February 2004, and each and every member of that band are great. One thing I will always recall is after their concert, the band sung "Happy Birthday" to me.
3. The Katinas
This Samoan worship band is well known for their sincere passion for Jesus! With their passion for Christ, the their eclectic R&B style to lead worship throughout their albums and concerts.
4. Jars of Clay
Jars of Clay is a fairly soft alternative rock band that allows God's presence into your heart. My most favorite albums from them are their self-titled debut album, and one of their latest CDs, The Eleventh Hour. The first song in that album reminds me a lot of Matchbox Twenty's song, Bent, from the Mad Season CD. Other songs that I like from Jars of Clay are Something Beautiful and I Need You, as well as A Love Song for a Savior and Flood from their self-titled debut.
5. Relient K
Relient K is known for their humorous spin in their music. Most of their music is heavy and light-spirited, and it's very evident in their three albums.
6. Rebecca St. James
Rebecca St. James is a very talented artist that has been around since the early 90s. Soon after her family moved to the States from Australia, Rebecca's father lost his job, and the family was forced to stick together and rely on God in order to avoid the further misfortune of being homeless.
Fortunately, her talents were discovered and since then, her music has an impact on the lives of young people. To this day, she has nearly a dozen full-length albums to her credit. Although each of her albums has a music style that is very inconsistent, her music is very inspiring, and I always feel God's presence while listening to them.
7. Jeremy Camp
Jeremy Camp is a very powerful singer who released his first CD called "Stay". His music is very enjoyable.
8. Jaci Velasquez
A really cool artist that uses a soft pop style in her music. My most favorite release from her is the Unspoken CD. I really like they style of clothes she wears on the CD cover, but most of all, I like just about every song on that CD.
I met her in person in August 2003. While I met her, I commented on her new album. She says to me, "We had a lot of fun doing this CD". A very down-to-earth person, she is a wonderful person to meet and meet again.
9. Audio Adrenaline
This band has a lot of catchy and energy in their music.
10. MercyMe
Mercy Me releases a lot of unique contemporary worship songs in thri albums. Their music and style is popular in their albums, and also in many churches and worship groups. One of the songs they are well known for is I Can Only Imagine from their first major release, Almost There.
