Investors - TAKE BACK THIS FORUM
by Piratelooksat40 on TMF
There are approximately 10 people that do NOTHING but promote LINUX and post negative information about Microsoft.
bonky posted this gem:Here's what I make of it: It's written from the author's perspective - Microsoft hater.
What a wonderfully elegant ad hominem! And it's not even untrue, merely irrelevant.
What you're really saying here is that anyone who criticises Microsoft is not to be taken seriously precisely because he is criticising Microsoft. The messenger is the message.
Technical Ignorance is Bliss
Re: Why are You on this Board?
by youngsl on TMF
Knowing what you own", from the point of view of the investor, doesn't require technical competency in the company owned. You can know a great deal about a business =as a business= without knowing anything at all about viruses or writing code or why Linux is or isn't a good end user platform
Do you seriously think that what you write will change my position on Microsoft?
I really wish the Fool would have some kind of branching mechanism that would automatically send all the Linux messages to another thread or send them to the Red Hat board. If all the Linux crap were filtered out this board would be halfway decent.
It goes like this:
pro-MSFTie: "Linux sux"
con-MSFTie: "It does not because a) b) c)"
pro-MSFTie: "I'm tired of your Linux talk, go away, commie-pond-scum-Yugo-salesman"If you don't want to talk about Linux, why the hell are you starting a Linux thread every 2 minutes?

The reactions:
Paul Larson of TMF comments
I can't write something about Microsoft and not mention the highly publicized antics of the company's CEO, Steve Ballmer. As one of my fellow Fools joked, "How can you watch Ballmer on stage and not want to short the stock?"...But when your company's CEO starts making the late-night comedy shows because he has a reputation of occasionally acting like a raving lunatic... not good. Being the new posterboy for antiperspirant... not good.
11. Kids, crystal meth is a dangerous substance....
... Your CEO wouldn't do that, and that's probably one reason why your company's stock price is plummeting to new lows while yet another round of layoffs is in the works. Mock Ballmer all you want, but the passion of Microsoft's CEO hints at a larger truth about the software maker" "...But like Microsoft or not, the unsated appetite of this company is a testament to the ability and drive of the folks running the show. In business, like in war, half-measures don't make it. And when you go into battle, it helps if the true believers are in command"
Do you think the courts will buy this theory? They haven't so far. So far the only interpretation of events that any judge will buy is that Microsoft lucked into a monopoly, and has been abusing it ever since. If it walks like a chimp, and talks like a chimp, it's probably a chimp. Or an idiot.
One of the hardest things CEO's to accomplish is to motivate their employees. Different managers have different styles. Ballmer is an exicitable and passionate guy and it shows. Thats his style.
Jack Welch had an interested comment in GE's annual report about his managers buying into GE's corporate culture and vision. Basically those managers who didn't buy in were going to find themselves somewhere else. They are a cancer on the corporation.
"One of the hardest things CEO's to accomplish is to motivate their employees."1. Why would that be hard, in this instance in particular? 2. What sort of employees would be pumped up by some guy running around and screeching like a monkey?

What I'm Betting On
by DJWKLW
You guys will eventual kill yourselves. Last count has several versions of Linux out there, with many different programmers making modifications. How long do you think you guys will brush off the Birkenstocks, stand round the campfire, hold hands, and sing Kumbyai (sp), before you've got hundreds of factions. Then it will be time for me to hit the Linux boards. I will sit back and laugh, as you beat each other to a bloody pulp.
Verdict - Microsoft is going to kill everyone in this industry.

The Moral Abyss
Re: Why are You on this Board?
by youngsl on TMF
It makes not a whit of difference what Microsoft actually =is=, as long as whatever they are continues to successfully sell product.
I am a MSFT stockholder and I applaud the management of MSFT each time they crush or preferably annihilate the competition. The higher the margins, the higher the revenues, the lower the costs, the more MSFT can charge, the happier I am.
What if: the tobacco companies decided not to sell any more cigarettes in the US? Think maybe a few folks would get fired up and protest? (I don't smoke). What if Microsoft held a new conference tomorrow and announce they would cease selling all Operating systems in the USA for 1 year? Think maybe we'd have a protest?
Now, some will argue that there is something to be said for "morally responsible" investing. Perhaps, but the crowd that's accusing Microsoft of being morally bankrupt appears to base their claim on Microsoft winning in the market. All the damned sob-stories I hear about how poor little Netscape was beat up just don't cut the mustard with me.
Microsoft executives said Tuesday the company had no plans to pay dividends from its $40.5 billion in cash holdings as long as the software giant faced the threat of further litigation.
