"Companhia das Músicas" is a Portuguese band based in the Newark, New Jersey area that, in the past 8 years, has dedicated itself to the interpretation of traditional Portuguese music. Its music, while traditional in origin, uses a symbiosis of diverse cultural influences. The final product sometimes uses a jazz idiom in its improvisations and harmonies, while at the same time it conveys a profound respect for its Portuguese musical culture.
