STUDIO ANIMALS

JESUS ROCKS

rock 'n roll on sunday morning
i was still in bed
you woke up and got dressed up for church
left on your moped
but you put some music on
and it was very loud
and the sun was shining in the sky
no clouds, 'cause

jesus rocks
jesus rocks
jesus rocks
jesus rocks

and the radio was playing
all my favorite songs
suddenly a man came on to preach
something is wrong
i don't wanna hear no gospel
i just can't believe
heaven ain't religious
as they say to me, 'cause

jesus rocks
jesus rocks
jesus rocks
jesus rocks

then you came back home all dreary
you looked very bored
you say you aren't satisfied
with the house of the lord
come into my power pop world
throw your bible down
there's no such thing as salvation
if you don't get down

jesus rocks
jesus rocks
jesus rocks
jesus rocks

RECORDS

records are so much fun
records are second to none

records are the way i choose
to entertain myself
records are neat
sounding unbeatable

records look so good and yet
they take so little space
records are here
nothing there to erase

records make a man into
a world celebrity
records are good
records are right for me

records are so much fun
records are second to none
records are so much fun
records are second to none
play

hey, why's everybody watchin tv?
i got some records, people
very good

records are so much fun
records are second to none
records are so much fun
records are second to none

THE FLAVOUR IS MINE

you say
you know
you have
your feel
feel me i won't tell
some situation is released
the flavour began
and love was in my mouth
a loop of water falls
spoiled by dessert
taking nonsense seriously

last night i knew not time
the flavour is mine
good taste deserves holiday
another passage of decency
lights with widespread approval
you are best consumed
raw

hold me
hold me back
hold your breath
the mention of irony is bad habit
this is absurd
but i love it anyway
like electronic dollars and banal reviews

the flavour is mine

ask me not
the flavour is hot
living legend's personal peace
variety of moods of a strength
someone could not handle
every one of them knew that as
time went by they'd get
a little bit older and a little bit slower

1980 r.stevie moore

SOX

why in 1985-86 do all the little girls walking after school wear black pants with white sox on top of them? the pants are stuffed inside the sox, y'see it more and more every day. aren't they only doing it because everybody else is doing it? i'd like to shoot 'em all. i wanna shoot 'em, there's another one! look, and they wear white sneakers, it makes them look like they're wearing tights. whether they're tight or baggy, the black pants are always stuffed inside the white sox. everybody's doing it, i guess that means i'm NOT gonna do it.

BACK IN TIME

there's such a feeling in my room
it's like i'm in another calendar year

the future seems dreadful
it's obvious to all
the times have changed no more
we are certain to fall

the future seems worthless
society to blame
the price is out of reach
american con-game

there's such a pattern of thought here
it's like i'm just another rock 'n roll fool

i want to go back in time
i want to go back in time

the future seems dismal
for us in mid-thirties
the general opinion
never escapes gerdes

there's such a feeling in my room
it's like i'm in another part of the crowd

the future r.stevie
may well give up the fight
i want to go back in time
i want to go back in time

the future seems dreadful
it's obvious to me
the times have changed no moore
we can certainly see

there's such a lack of emotion
it's like i'm justanotherrock'nrollfool

the future seems dreadful

WITHOUT CAUSE

1976 r.stevie moore

TREAT ME

lock me in my room and
tell me to shut or you'll cut me up

treat me
like you would treat a disaster movie
treat me very groovy

block me on the field and
tell me to lay down or you'll knock me down

treat me
like you would treat a contagious illness
treat me like brazil nuts

rock me on the stage and
tell me to get off or you'll get me off

treat me
like you would treat any ice cold shoulder
treat me like a soldier

treat me
like you would treat a collapsing building
treat me like your children
treat me
treat me

1978 r.stevie moore

SATISFACTION (jagger-richards)

i cannot get any satisfaction
i cannot get any satisfaction
and i have tried and i have tried
and i have tried and i have tried

when i send out demo tapes
and the man replies, i'm sorry
but we can't help you out right now
and instead he signs a brand new band
who sounds just like all the other bands
but they can't be a band cause they do not use
the same kind of tape as me
no no no

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY

hi there
here i go again
with a recording session
in my bedroom head
but my equipment's failing
there's something wrong here
(listen to the noise and the fading highs
don't know what to do but to compromise)
there's something wrong here
with sound-on-sound

i am going to sing a little song to you
i know you'll like to hear it
but the quality of sound
is falling to the ground
it's the cheapest sound in town for sure

oh no
here i go again
here comes another
technical difficulty
i should erase the whole thing
there's something sad here

help me
here i go
another composition
that should see the studio

man this is a drag
sit back and think while i light a fag
send me to jamaica in a plastic bag
put me in a store with a high price tag

goodbye
i'm gonna turn my stereo completely off
and i will never attempt to impress you again
okay? good. don't be ridiculous.

WHO NEEDS GIRLS

who needs girls?
i do
why?
i don't want to need something i don't like
why are we all forced to agree to
need things we don't particularly like?
like, girls
i can't get along with girls
oh i know it's my problem
and though all you female types listening
are probably mad at me now

who needs girls?
i do
why?
i get all wrapped up in the package
and i'm suckered into
buying something inside
that will explode out and make me
totally reverse my preference
like, totally turn off

who needs girls?
you do
i'm not the only one
okay, we all know the ages old phrase:
can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em
but i'm so uptight about this
i can't live with ME
am i supposed to to live without anything?

who needs girls?
they do
those guys
all those thousands of guys
who are all forced to agree to
need something they can get married to
and by crackie, they can actually be happy
living with them
seeing them
every goshdarn day of the year

who needs girls?
they all do
they're talking to each other:
'what are you thinking about?'
'what are you doing?' and
'why aren't you doing or not doing?'
'soooo...?'

who needs girls?

so i guess i do
yes i've said my piece
and i guess this'll probably be
a silly song to have to listen to
god forbid twice
but you see?
even that's my problem as well
me
sloppily laying my moaning and groaning
on piece of plastic tape
merely to waste your time
and mine
who needs it?
patrick?
i think i'm getting worse

DELICATE TENSION

this is a dreadful party
i don't know why i came here

gettin to be pretty common place
don't want anyone to see my face
actually it's more like i don't care
to see anybody else sittin there
this is a song for the lonely soul
the one who's hiding there in a hole
feeling apprehensive all by myself
that's the only way it's ever been

delicate tension creeps up on you
and you don't know how to keep it there
pelican pension is all you will ever win

are you amused by my pitiful tale
everybody knows how it feels to fail
grief and misery often drop by

middle age crisis, what's the point
i think we oughta just split this joint
i mean depart the premises
let's get out of here
i feel a sudden surge of

delicate tension creeps up on you
and you don't now how to keep it there
pelican pension is all you will ever get paid
delicate tension creeps up on you
and you don't know how i keep it there
penguin perception is all i will ever get paid

gettin to be pretty common place
don't want anyone to see my face
actually it's more like i don't care
to see anybody else sittin there
the first introduction at the door
proved i shouda stayed home even more
the second introduction said i'm so debonair
but i don't care to stick around

make believe this is a millon-seller
make believe this is a millon-seller
make believe this is a millon-seller
make believe this is a millon-seller
if you ever wanna see me again
roll over george orwell
if you ever wanna kiss me again
roll over george orwell
if you ever wanna hear me again
roll over george orwell
if you ever wanna have me again
roll over george orwell

YOU AND ME

you and me at eleven o'clock
try to lengthen the time
cause i love you and i love you
and i really hate to go
but at least by now you know i'm your boy

you and me at eleven o'clock
listen to our last song
cause i love you and i love you
and i really hate to go
every day i love you more, lovely chicken
i wish that i could stay all the day

you and me at the curfew hour
i don't want you to cry
cause i love you and i'll miss you
cause i really hate to go
but at least by now you know i'm your boy
he's your boy

don't want to get you in trouble
oh no no
don't want to see you in shambles

standing up at eleven o'clock
wipe the tears from your eyes
cause i love you and i love you
and i really hate to go
cause i realize it so
you and me

JESUS CHRIST

jesus christ
jesus christ

jesus christ was a rock
jesus christ was a country
jesus christ was jazz
jesus christ was classical
jesus christ was a city
jesus christ was a continent
jesus christ was a town
jesus christ was opera

1983 r.stevie moore

ROCK AND ROLL KIT

a rock and roll kit came to my front door
i don't remember what it sold for
nevertheless it was incredible weather
and in no time i had it put together
it was a breeze quite full of ease
i turned my kit into a hit

set up me drums at a quarter to five
i put them down in one take with no jive
add two guitars so i'd have another song
i had a feeling it wouldn't take long
i played the bass just like an ace
i turned my kit into a fit

rock and roll kit's very fun to play
rock and roll fits comin' every day
rock and roll fits throwin' it away
rock

rock and roll kit's very fun to play
(yes it is)
rock and roll fits comin' every day
(here they come)
rock and roll bits boy you gotta stay
rock
roll

a rock and roll kit came to my front door
it was a good one in 7/4
followed the instructions inside my hairy head
i made it up by myself instead
i play it now just like a cow
how do you like my rock and roll bit?

CASSETTES

cassettes are so much fun
cassettes are second to none

cassettes are the way i choose
to entertain myself
cassettes are neat
sounding unbeatable (with dolby)

cassettes look so good and yet
they take so little space
cassettes are here
if you don't like it you can erase

cassettes make a man into
a world phone-in penpal
cassettes are good
cassettes are so versatile

cassettes are so much fun
cassettes are second to none
cassettes are so much fun
cassettes are second to none
push play

hey, why's everybody using 8-tracks?
i got some cassettes, people
that's adequate

cassettes are so much fun
cassettes are second to none
cassettes are so much fun
cassettes are second to none

OVEN LOVE

darkness comes and it's cold in the house
so i sit in my favourite chair
rest me here right front of the stove
with the door wide open
turn it on

oven love
home home on the range
oven love
invisible gloves
oven law
warm physical stuff

might as well cook something filling to eat
corned beef hash now the kitchen is warm
my best friend is a white device
no defiance for my appliance
turn it on

oven love
home home on the range
oven love
invisible gloves
oven law
warm physical stuff

YOU'LL NEVER GET ME

GOODBYE PIANO

goodbye piano
you're too overweight for
me to take you with me
into the hills
where rings are round the collar
they tell me not
to worry 'bout the dollars
if it were not for you
i wouldn't bother so
goodbye piano
you're so out of tune that
i assume you're dead

goodbye piano
cause you're so old i
should have sold instead
goodbye piano
you're so out of tune that
i assume you're dead

goodbye piano!
it was glorious knowing you the past month or two
but as usual, they're sending me away
because i cannot supply the money they want
but wherever i go, i know i'll meet your brothers and sisters
and of course they would gladly let me play
their boards all day long
now you rest right here, okay?
you rest right here like a good little set of keys should
and don't let anyone give you a whipping
as long as you live, okay?
