Scenario: Young Princes
of Dorwinion
Setting:
The Kingdom of Dorwinion is located in northeastern Middle
Earth, bordering the Sea of Rhun to their east. To the north are the wild lands
of the Iron Hills inhabited by the hostile swarthy Men of Rhun and the
Utangeats, Northmen cousins to Dorwinion. To the west lies the plains of Rhovanion
and the Eothraim plains horsemen, as well as nomadic Gramuz. To the south are
the barren Plains of Mordor, and beyond the feared Mountains of Mordor. The
southeastern plains are barren, but increasingly see Easterling horse tribes
seeking refuge from the Far East. Dorwinion at this time is ruled by King
Gaerandil from Koenigsburg just upriver on the River Celduin from the Sea of
Rhun. The people of Dorwinion are primarily of Northman stock, and are known as
great traders and merchants, most famous for their wines and the bounty of
their inland sea.
These adventures are set n the Red Hills region of
Dorwinion, within the Domain of the Dorwinrim Duke Ollonis of House Karn. Duke
Ollonis’ lands border on Eothraim lands north and west, and personally just
returned from a successful trade mission in Eothraim lands to open up new trade
agreements.
Peoples of Dorwinion:
There are 4 sub-cultures within the Dorwinion. Most numerous
(~40%) are the Dorwinrim, the core Northman stock of Dorwinion. They are a tall and physical people with
blond hair, blue eyes and Nordic features.
Next are the Eneth (~30%), Northmen with an infusion
of Eredrim blood, mostly from Dale, Laketown and the Woodmen of Greenwood. They
are not quite as tall with sandy blond or brown hair, and brown or copper eyes.
They are mostly agrarian and inhabit the fertile lowlands of Dorwinion, and are
looked down upon by many of the other Dorwinion who pride themselves on their
blond hair.
Afterward came the Northrons (~20%), those with
recent infusion of Northman (primarily Utangeat) blood, their hair can
sometimes appear so blond as to appear silver, and have more pronounced nordic features
in their facial structure. They are primarily settled in the eastern reaches of
the country, near to the Sea of Rhun and their barbarian cousins, the
Utangeats. While most of Dorwinion considers the “Geats” barbaric and
uncultured, the Northrons proudly trace their family lines to them and continue
their war-like traditions.
Least numerous are the Westlanders (~10%) whose
bloodlines were influenced by Dunedain and Gondorian bloodlines. Also a tall
and physical people, their faces appear rounder with a brownish tint to their
hair, even at rare times black (hence called the “Black Northmen”), and their
eyes tend to hazel or even gray. They are known to have a piercing and
sometimes disturbing gaze, seeming to be able to look into men’s minds which
serves them well in their diplomatic and other arcane pursuits.
